Based upon director Tod Browning's novel "The Hypnotist", the plot of "Mark of the Vampire" centers around Miss Irena Borotyn (Elizabeth Allen), who apparently is attacked by the mysterious Count Mora (Bela Lugosi).
Masterful horror director Todd Browning revamps (sorry, I couldn't resist) Bela Lugosi's "Dracula" iconography for this atmospheric and intriguing film about a small town that may be infested with the undead.
Lugosi gives an interesting, and in some ways more satisfying, re-interpretation of his more famous vampire role, but his is a supporting performance, with Atwell, Hersholt, and ingenue Elizabeth Allen offering capable performances in the leading roles.
