Assassins II by Elisabeth Frink 1930-1993
From the late 1940s, Giacometti had concentrated on the frail vulnerability of the individual, while a post war concern for the victims of military and political oppression was commonplace, as exemplified by the 1953 competiton for a 'Monument to an Unknown Political Prisoner'.
During the sixties, Elizabeth Frink made a series of heads and standing figures which develop the image of the soldier, to portray the more evil aspects of ambition and the will to power.
Frink's sculptures from this time use the fusion of heads and bodies with military gear to suggest complete role identification - these men have been thoroughly indoctrinated.

Not identifying with conceptual art and anxious not to join it's ranks of pretentious and often talent-less individuals, Holland kept a low profile and simply got on with the type of work she preferred.
Concentrating on sculpture and influenced by Elizabeth Frink, Kenneth Armitage and Lynn Chadwick, Holland found her own ways to develop her work and pursue her interest in organic, animal and figurative subject matter.
Inspired by the fossils and stuffed animals at Oxford's Pitt Rivers museum, her final year show explored animal and human comparative anatomy and evolution.
