Following the election of Ögödei's son Güyüg in 644/1246, Eljigidei was given the command of a force raised for a fresh campaign in western Asia.
Eljigidei was given command over the forces at one time headed by Ùorma@g@un (Ùorma@@g@u@n, q.v.) in that region (Abramowski, 1976, p.
Eljigidei's arrival at Talas (T®ara@z) in Turkestan coincided with the death in April 1248 of the q@a@÷a@n Güyüg, who had himself begun to move west against Batu.

The Chaghadaids and Islam: the conversion of Tarmashirin Khan (1331-34). - Journal, Magazine, Article, Periodical
Eljigidei, Dore Temur, or both, however, are often skipped by the Muslim sources that describe the Chaghadaid dynasty, or are said to have ruled for a very short time.
During Eljigidei's reign Tarmashirin remained in the western half of the khanate, and his base was probably at Tirmidh.
In the Yuan map, drawn in 1330, all the traditional Chaghadaid realm, from Uighuria to the Oxus, is described as "the lands of Dore Temur." (17) In the eighth month of 1331 Tarmashirin's messengers arrived at the Yuan court to report that he had succeeded Dore Temur as the Chaghadaid Khan.

For this reason Güyüg transferred overall military command in the Near East to Eljigidei (Èl±^kada@y) and Ba@yju@ was thereby demoted.
In any event, Güyüg having died in April, 1248, Eljigidei was arrested and executed on Batu's orders in 649/1251 for his opposition to the election of the new great khan Möngke (Mangu@), and Ba@yju@ was restored to his command.

At the Tatars' camp near Kars he met a certain David, who next year (1248) appeared at the court of King Louis IX of France in Cyprus.
Andrew, who was now with Saint Louis, interpreted David's message to the King, a real or pretended offer of alliance from the Mongol general Ilchikdai (Eljigidei), and a proposal of a joint attack upon the Islamic powers for the conquest of Syria.
In reply to this the French sovereign dispatched Andrew as his ambassador to the great Kuyuk Khan; with Longjumeau went his brother (a monk) and several others — John Goderiche, John of Carcassonne, Herbert "Le Sommelier," Gerbert of Sens, Robert (a clerk), a certain William, and an unnamed clerk of Poissy.

 Barony Of Vatavia, Prestor John
In 1247 the Mongols attempted to use Prester John for their own purposes.
The Mongol commander in Persia, Eljigidei, had the idea of using the Crusaders to pin the Sultan of Egypt while he took Baghdad.
To gain their support, he sent envoys saying that the mother of the Mongol emperor was Prester John’s daughter, and that the emperor had converted to Christianity.

 Hulagu Khan
Hulagu easily destroyed the Lurs, and his reputation so frightened the Assassins that they surrendered their impregnable fortress of Alamut to him without a fight.
Hulagu probably always intended to take Baghdad, which the Mongols had been meaning to get around to for over ten years, (see Eljigidei) but he used the caliph's refusal to send troops to him as a pretext for conquest.
Hulagu sent a message to the caliph containing the following (trans.

During Batu's great expansion to the west the land between the Caspian and the Black Seas, Azerbaijan, came solidly under Mongol control; the next military governor of the area, Baiju, pushed Mongol influence into Rum, now Turkey, and crushed the Selluks.
When Baiju was replaced by the devious Eljigidei there was talk of a campaign against Baghdad, but nothing came of it.
With the accession of Mongke, Elligidei was swept away with the old regime and Baiju was reinstated as governor.

The traditional account is that Jamuqa was wrapped in a carpet and then trampled by horses.
[53] This account is almost certainly romanticized, as some chroniclers, notably Rashid ad-Din, claim that Jamuqa was dismembered by Temüjin’s cousin Eljigidei.
Temüjin also took the opportunity to crush the remaining Merkit definitively, with only Toqto’a-beki, the perpetual last ruler of the Merkit escaping.
