 | | PHILO ACKLEY, farmer and oil producer, Kendall Creek, was born in Cayuga county, N.Y., in 1821, a son of Ahiel and Clarissa (Olmstead) Ackley, natives of Connecticut, and farmers by occupation. |
 | | Ernest Leopold was reared in Erie county, receiving a common-school education, and followed farming until 1869, when he went to Venango county and engaged in drilling wells; he remained there four years, and then went to Clarion county, where he stayed three years. |
 | | Sage was reared in Broome county, and received an ordinary education, after which he learned the carpenter’s trade, which he followed until April, 1876, when he came to McKean county, and worked at building oil rigs, or derricks, also at tool dressing and drilling. |
