Ell Pond had not been treated for weeds since 1996, and was treated last year through the Program of Monitoring and Management.
Ell Pond is a classic of having an 8 year $1,000 study done years ago which said clean up the water shed.
Ell Pond was socked with vegetation on the surface and sometimes in the past it has been a stinking mess.

In late June, the wild rhododendron blooms in such profusion at Ell Pond and Long Pond that it’s well worth a trip just to see it (the area was designated a National Natural Landmark in 1974).
Along the way, the small caves created by the rocks, the endless variety of lichen, and the dense groves of rhododendron and mountain laurel give any hiker pause.
Follow that another half-mile and look on the right for the trailhead and pull-offs for parking.
