Chris Elliott - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Chris Elliott (born May 31, 1960 in New York City) is an American comedian and the son of comedian Bob Elliott.
Elliott became known in the early 1980s playing an assortment of recurring oddball characters on NBC's Late Night With David Letterman.
Elliott often tends to play a smarmy character who thinks he is a "ladies' man" and is clueless to the fact that the women can't stand him.

Bob Elliott (comedian) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Robert Brackett Elliott (born March 26, 1923) is an American comedian, formerly one-half of the comedy duo of Bob and Ray.
Elliott appeared on a number of other television programs, including Happy Days, Newhart, and Bob and Ray, Jane, Laraine and Gilda in 1979 (with Goulding, Jane Curtin, Laraine Newman, and Gilda Radner).
In 1990, Elliott portrayed Fred Peterson in the television series Get A Life, which starred his real-life son Chris Elliott as his son in the show.

While Kaufman has been resurrected in film, books and 12,000 magazines as a mad comedic savant, Elliott -- he of "Late Night with David Letterman" and "Get a Life" fame -- is, well, the voice of Dogbert, an ignominious fate for a performer who is every bit as innovative, bold and bafflingly odd.
Elliott graduated to "Get a Life," his cult masterpiece, playing Chris Peterson, the pathetic, bathetic 30-year-old paperboy still living with his parents.
Elliott has been wandering the show-business wasteland ever since -- his catch-phraseless comedy seemed out of place in a brief stint on "Saturday Night Live," and "Cabin Boy" justifiably tanked with critics and ticket-buyers alike.

Syracuse New Times: Film Review   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-22)
Elliott plays 30-year-old paperboy Chris Peterson, still living at home with his chirpy mom Gladys (Father Knows Best star Elinor Donahue) and wisecracking dad Fred (Bob Elliott, Chris' real-life dad and half of the classic comedy team Bob & Ray), who are always at the breakfast table dressed in their pajamas.
Elliott even tried to parlay his cultish audience with his 1994 movie Cabin Boy, his spoof of Captains Courageous; unfortunately, the movie studio (Walt Disney's Touchstone unit) had such little faith in its box-office potential that Cabin Boy was barely released.
Elliott's loony merging of the Three Stooges' violent slapstick with his sneering humor and unlovable persona was an inspired risk that too few sitcoms are capable of making.

 Chris Elliott
Chris Elliott may have been born with a funny spoon in his mouth -- he's the son of Bob Elliott, the more deadpan half of the famous comedy duo Bob and Ray -- but he's developed his own offbeat brand of humor and gained his own substantial cult following.
Elliott began his show business career as a standup comic, but he first gained public attention as a writer and performer on Late Night With David Letterman, helping that show define a new age of ironic comedy, and winning two Emmys as part of Letterman's writing team.
Elliott went through a creative dry spell after this, appearing in a recurring role in the Tea Leoni sitcom Flying Blind, and gaining more national visibility as a spokesman for Tostitos snack chips.

 Chris Elliott
Elliott developed a succession of memorable characters such as the Regulator Guy, the Conspiracy Guy and the Guy Under the Seats, where Elliott literally would crawl out from under the floorboards and heckle Letterman.
Because of his exposure on the late-night talk show, Elliott was given a small role in Michael Mann's 1986 movie "Manhunter," as well as a guest shot on "Miami Vice." But he said he has no great desire to parlay his talents to the big screen.
Elliott, who writes most of his material with longtime partner Matt Wickline, said one good thing about having popularity on the Letterman show is, now he's primarily responsible just for writing his own skits.

Chris Elliott, a literature BA (with a minor in music) and poetry MFA, has his minstrelsy credentials fully in order.
With his ultra-straightforward folk songwriting, familiar melodies and self-conscious storytelling, Elliott might well have fallen prey to the conditioned mediocrity of the educated artist -- a victim of too much instruction in the status quo.
Elliott is skilled in characterization; "Greek Tragedy" especially nails it, with a wry but sensitive portrait of the immigrant restaurant owner who briefly employs the song's protagonist.

Elliott's first novel, The Shroud of the Thwacker is a comedic take on the Victorian era outlined in novels like The Alienist and the book includes real characters such as Teddy Roosevelt and Don Imus.
Elliott's problem is that Boilerplate and Professor Campion are the creations of Portland, Ore. comics artist Paul Guinan, who originally created Boilerplate as a character for a planned graphic novel in 2000.
Elliott somehow convinced himself that Boilerplate and Campion were actual historical figures and the two characters appear throughout Thwacker.
