  Elliott Brothers (computer company) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Elliott Brothers (London) Ltd was an early computer company of the 1950s–60s in the United Kingdom.
The well-known computer scientist, Sir Tony Hoare was an employee there in the early 1960s and wrote an ALGOL 60 compiler for the Elliott 803.
Elliott Automation (as it had become) merged with English Electric and was then taken over by GEC shortly afterwards in 1968.

Jack Pateman, who has died aged 82, was a founder and leader of the British avionics industry; as an engineer for Elliott Automation and later as head of the avionics division of GEC, he had a hand in the development of electronic controls for a wide range of aircraft.
In 1948 he moved to Elliott Brothers (London), which had begun in the 19th century as a maker of optical and drawing instruments for the Admiralty and the Ordnance, and emerged in the post-war years as a pioneer of computer development, chiefly for the Royal Navy.
In 1967 Elliott Automation (as the group had become, under the leadership of Sir Leon Bagrit) was acquired by English Electric, which owned Marconi, and in the following year English Electric became part of the General Electric Company conglomerate assembled by Arnold (later Lord) Weinstock.
