Elmendorf Air Force Base, adjacent to the city of Anchorage, Alaska, is the largest Air Force installation in Alaska and home of the Headquarters, Alaskan Command (ALCOM), Alaskan NORAD Region (ANR), Eleventh Air Force (11 AF) and the 3d Wing, at 61.262476° N 149.850426° W.
The Eleventh Air Force was redesignated as the Alaskan Air Command (AAC) on 18 December 1945.
The 21st Wing inactivated and the 3d Wing was reassigned from Clark Air Base to Elmendorf Air Force Base on 19 December 1991.

The arrival of Tactical Air Command and jet aircraft marked the beginning of a new era in the history of the field, and in January 1948 Langley Field officially became Langley Air Force Base.
Air Combat Command acts as the primary provider of air combat forces in the warfighting commands and as the proponent for Intercontinental ballistic missiles and fighter, bomber, reconnaissance and battle-management aircraft, and command, control, communications and intelligence systems.
Based on these changes, it was the military judgment of the JCSG that Langley AFB would be better able to perform these functions for both locations.

Replacement of substandard pipeline components, such as cast iron spool pieces, buried flanges, and brass fittings were needed to bring the pipelines into compliance with state and federal regulations.
Following the completion of construction contract, the base required the pipelines to operate at a higher maximum allowable operating pressure.
All pipelines and segments were subjected to, and successfully passed, a 24 pressure test at the 125% of the full ANSI 150 rating (356 psi).

ELMENDORF AIR FORCE BASE, Alaska (NNS) -- Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 14 from USS John C. Stennis (CVN 74) is operating for the first time with Air Combat Maneuver Instrumentation (ACMI) pods.
The ACMI pods are being used on Navy F-14 Tomcats, as well as on the Air Force F-15 Eagles during Alaska’s premier joint training exercise, Northern Edge 2004 (NE '04) in June.
Elmendorf owns more than 60 pods, and CVW-14 will use eight of them during the exercise.
