Elminster - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Elminster is generally understood to be an alter ego of Ed Greenwood, the creator of the game world, although Greenwood vehemently denies this.
Elminster is perhaps the most famous person on Toril, and certainly the most eminent sage in Faerûn.
Before Elminster was a mage, he was the son of a prince of the dead kingdom of Athalantar who was murdered by archmages.

 Elminster
Elminster has perhaps the best private library in the Realms, and hence is often consulted on matters of history and genealogy, but he is most famous as the foremost authority on rare and arcane magic, and on dangerous and unusual beasts.
Elminster enhoys imparting wisdom to others, but intensely dislikes giving up the time necessary to train a magic-user to a new level of mastery, and will not undertake such tutelage for those with whom he is not friendly or to whom he's not beholden.
Elminster's precise age is unknown (he will coyly evade any questions on this topic), but he is at least 600 winters of age - and presumably the user of potions of longevity and vitality, and perhaps also a regular imbiber of elixir of life potions.

Elminster used it constantly to light that pipe of his, (Even then I knew there was something odd about the pipe, but 'twas not for many a year that I knew of its true power).
I told Elminster of this, and he assured me that Naragul was even more powerful now, for he had made alliances with several daemons of the lower planes, which could be called upon in times of need.

It seemed we were stuck with the root, since neither Layrel nor Elminster could come in close contact with us (it inhibited their magic as well) and they could not think of another group who would not be tempted to use its power in ways which would ultimately be harmful, by intent or otherwise.
Elminster also was able to outfit Kayna, Stargazer, and Zola with a spell which must be cast simultaneously, but which would kill the gods' souls.
Elminster explained that the difficulty was, the gods now both considered us their mortal enemies--and neither could regain true godhood until he had killed all our party.

I wish the book focussed more on Elminster's past (and over 800 years, there should be quite a bit to write about), but instead the book focussed on one boring story to the next (similar to anthology).
The last written book in the Elminster series turned out to be the least confusing book for me. His battles where still very confusing but the storyline was actually pretty good especially at the end.
Stuck in Hell to save his friends Elminster is tortured and maimed by an Arch devil and his only way of being saved is to recall memories in which he sends out messages for help.

While people are comparing Elminster to Raistlin, one must remember that Elminster is powerful and healthy, well over a thousand years old, and has the aid of a greater goddess of magic on his side.

 Talk:Elminster Mire - Gamegrene - Ghyll
Elminster Mire originates from discussions in the ur-Ghyll: the Ghyll that existed nine months before the version you're looking at now.
Anyways, though my memory is clouded, I recall the "hook" of the articles being that the author was stuck (secretly) inside this full body suit of armor whilst the greatest mages sat at a table sipping tea and discussing matters of great import.
The definition of stillicide is pretty oddish for a crisis ("A continual falling or succession of drops; rain water falling from the eaves"), so I decided to just skip it and maybe attack it in a more macro environmental entry.

 Elminster in Hell
The latest installment of the Elminster series, and for all those who have read the saga from the beginning, this book promises more of the same blast and die action that has become an Elminster trademark.
This book has a twist though, most of the book is made up of Elminsters memories, interspersed with dialogue between the great sage and his archdemon, or the rush of Elminsters friends to come to his rescue.
I have an idea for a plot, lets put Elminster at the mercy of an insanely powerful creature bent on discovering the secrets of silver fire and then have Toril's elite magic users, including a goddess come to the rescue of the old man. Now lets add the twists, oh wait, there are none.
