Space Costume: In Search of a Plan
Jenssen also considers the "broad-shouldered, Neo-classical drapery" of the cloaks worn by the Imperial Guard in The Return of the Jedi to be "a common costume device" for future world wardrobes (97).
Jenssen identifies other space costume devices, used by designers to displace the costumes from an historical context and thereby provide a futuristic flavour, as either asymmetry or alteration of the shape of design elements (98, 103, 110); unfamiliar colours or texture combinations (99, 100, 110); and conventional clothing items used in unconventional contexts (105).
Jenssen predicts that the work of costume designers will continue to picture the future in terms of "both the historic past and contemporary aesthetics" (112).

I Love Lucy Behind the Scenes - WRITERS & CREW   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-24)
Lucy's wardrobe was usually designed by Elois Jenssen, who created a universal wardrobe for the 'Lucy' character.
If one should compare the outfits Lucy wore in I Love Lucy and The Lucy Desi Comedy Hours (which were not by Elois Jenssen), they would definitely notice a difference.
Elois' designs were much more elegant than those of the other designer.

Among Elois' most famous "Lucy creations" is the fl-lace housecoat (which many fans consider to be the penultimate Lucy outfit, second only to the famed blue polka-dot dresses).
Elois also designed Lucy and Ethel's breakaway "Friendship" gowns; Lucy's fancy sweater-top worn in the "knives" episode; and the outrageous "let her get a load of us" outfits Lucy and Ethel wore after graduating from Charm School.
Elois won an Oscar for her outfits for Cecil B. DeMille's "Samson and Delilah" (1949), and a nomination for her designs for Disney's "Tron" (1980).

Many thanks for the nice e-notes regarding fashion/costume designer Elois Jenssen, who passed away February 14.
"There are many times that Elois' contributions 'made the moment.' I am thinking particularly of the breakaway outfits Lucy and Ethel wore for the 'Friendship' number, the Marilyn Monroe outfit, and the heavy showgirl headdress Lucy tried to wear in Hollywood.
Allan and artist Rick Carl, the craftsmen behind the upcoming "I Love Lucy Paper Dolls," are hoping to do a special tribute to Elois at the August festival in Jamestown, NY.
