Columbia News ::: Conference Focuses on Life and Writing of French Intellectuals Aragon and Triolet   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-14)
The impact of their loyalty to the Communist Party, the influence of their marriage on their writing, Triolet's struggles between communism and Judaism, the couple's relationship with contemporaries Picasso and Matisse, and Aragon's relations with American writers will also be explored.
Labeled "The Couple" by the press in the 50's and 60's, Aragon (1897-1982) and Triolet (1896-1970) were at the center of the French Intellectual movement for almost 30 years, during which time France was grappling with the most charged issues of the 20th Century--World War, de-Stalinization and the Cold War.
Aragon and Triolet were led by their unconditional loyalty to the Communist Party to deny, misrepresent or even justify the repressive nature of the totalitarian regimes of the Eastern bloc.

HEARING EYE Publications - Mayakovsky Reviews
Triolet never ceased to be an admirer of Stalin, and that governing admiration conditions what she can (and cannot) see and say about her other hero — Mayakovsky: Russian Poet.
Triolet starts off as Mayakovsky's lover, but then becomes a close friend as he proceeds to move in with her sister and her sister's husband.
Triolet, an unwavering Stalinist until her death in 1970, wouldn't have countenanced that idea and though the poets suicide (viewed by many as suspicious) is included, little explanation is offered by her.

Elsa Triolet, born Ella Jurievna Kagana in Moscow in 1896, brought into her French works ideas absorbed during her contact with Russian Futurist poets and theoreticians.
Chapter I presents the biographical details of Triolet's Futurist acquaintanceship, and her shift from Russian to French as her literary language.
Triolet's acceptance of the Futurist principle of the word as something to create gives way to a creative use of cliche.

 Elsa
Elsa is a German diminutive form the name Elisabeth (Elizabeth) from the Hebrew name, Elisheva, or Elisheba.
Elsa, a German diminutive, may have been introduced to the English-speaking world by Richard Wagner’s opera 1848 Lohengrin, but it was not used much until the late 19th century, on both sides of the Atlantic.
Probably, in most cases, American Victorians probably used Elsa as an exotic variant of the popular American diminutive Elsie, as the two names rose and fell in the early 20th century.

Starting from the statement of Camus’ l'Etranger, "We all know that life is not worth living" Elsa Triolet uses the myth of Baronness Melanie (a dead woman resurrects and lives again her life backwards) to ldeal with the question from a very different angle.
