Rock of Ages Hello, Yellow Brick Road October 7, 2004
I’ve loved Elton John since I bought his album "Tumbleweed Connection" in 1970, while still recovering from the demise of the Beatles.
Elton John was pungent with celebrity: He fired two of his longtime bandmates Dee Murray and Nigel Olsson, starred as the Pinball Wizard in the movie version of the Who’s "Tommy," and was voted Rock Music Awards’ outstanding rock personality of the year.
The toupee-less Elton played his grand piano seated, standing and in positions reminiscent of the diagrams in my roommate’s boyfriend’s copy of "The Joy of Sex." Finally, after playing a three-hour, 45-minute set of 27 songs, Elton energetically encored with "Saturday Night’s Alright (For Fighting)." I loved every overstated, glittery minute of it.
