The attention is certainly warranted as Elvenking have a nice twist on the overused elves and fairies theme.
Elvenking play it safe on a majority of the album, not straying too far from the bouncy woodlands jig pace reminiscent of Rhapsody's "The Village of Dwarves." And that's fine, 'cause it's all done a Skyclad-type folk appeal.
You see, Elvenking is maybe a tad more aggressive than many of their overly flowery peers, and they don't completely rely on the synths to carry the music.

To the contrary, the music of Elvenking blends folk melodies with power metal and thrash in a style quite similar to folk metal pioneers Skyclad.
For their sophomore album, Elvenking not only introduced new vocalist Kleid but also increased the emphasis on the power metal elements of their music, placing them more in the realm of bands such as Falconer and Dark Moor.
Still on the rise, Elvenking is a band that will appeal to all fans of folk-inspired power metal.

Elvenking was a title used throughout The Hobbit for the ruler of the Woodland Realm, the country of the Silvan Elves who dwelt in the northeast of Mirkwood in the later Third Age.
The Elvenking had his halls underground, partly in memory (it was said) of the mighty but long-lost Menegroth of Doriath.
During Bilbo's journey to Erebor, his companion Dwarves were briefly held prisoner by the Elvenking, and Thranduil's people were later given custody of Gollum for a time, too (though each of these prisoners was eventually able to escape).

Whilst all the ideas are there, the bringing together of all of these [styles] needs a lot of fine-tuning - although this should come with time because what they are playing is not an easy mix of styles.

Elvenking are formed in October 1997, iniziative of the guitarists Aydan and Jarpen (once known as Dag'or'dil), old friends who share the same passion for metal music and for folkloristic traditions.
Right from the beginning, Elvenking set themselves the objective of finding a formula which can combine metal, folk music and extreme sounds in a unique mixture, with lyrics based on the pagan worship of nature and on the tradition of folkloristic fairy-tales.
In the CD there are older songs, like the concluding "Under the Tree of Us'dum", one of the first tracks written by the band, and other more recent compositions which show the evolving of the group in a precise direction.

Elvenking was formed in October 1997 by two friends (guitarists Aydan and Jarpen) with the goal of mixing traditional metal with folk melodies.
Both bands are clearly in the same ballpark, with the differences being Damnagoras' vocals here, as his high-pitched melodic voice is a marked contrast to Martin Walkyier's venomous rapid-fire delivery that he had in Skyclad.
Elvenking's folk influences are more prominent as well, with well-integrated flutes, violins, and acoustic guitars complementing mid-to-fast-paced guitar melodies.

Elvenking are basically a Power Metal band who incorporate some Folk and even some Death elements.
Especially on the album closer "Seasonspeech", which has one of the coolest folk to metal intro transitions I have ever heard, but then it bogs down in a welter of shifting styles and vocal approaches that turns it into a complete mess.
So there are some good tunes on here, and Elvenking get credit for being different and trying to find their own sound, but novelty alone won't carry a whole album.
