In March 1998, Damnagoras joined the band as a lead singer, and was followed by the arrival of the drummer Zender in September.
Elvenking has declared itself to be a band highly influenced by a lot of folk music and dances from all over the world, but also from all the metal scene.

HEAVY METAL FORCES (English) -- Demos/Indies
The band for this recording included three guitarists, but it's not really apparent in the songs; the music is not overly heavy and doesn't seem to take full advantage of the extra set of strings to offer many layered guitar melodies or complex harmonies.
Elvenking are a welcome addition to the Italian metal scene, and the band certainly stands apart from the seemingly countless "symphonic metal bands" that are all trying to become the next Rhapsody.
The three tracks on this CD showcase different sides of the band's songwriting skills and musical personality, and the tunes were clearly written with a focus on the overall song instead of on useless instrumental solos or ego-induced complexities and time changes.

Elvenking was formed in October 1997 by two friends (guitarists Aydan and Jarpen) with the goal of mixing traditional metal with folk melodies.
Both bands are clearly in the same ballpark, with the differences being Damnagoras' vocals here, as his high-pitched melodic voice is a marked contrast to Martin Walkyier's venomous rapid-fire delivery that he had in Skyclad.
Elvenking's folk influences are more prominent as well, with well-integrated flutes, violins, and acoustic guitars complementing mid-to-fast-paced guitar melodies.

So be prepared for a very unique band with a unique charme giving the music something that it has been waiting for since ages: enchanting melodies, freshness, heavy metal groove and catchy choruses.

Elvenking was formed in October 1997 by the guitarists Aydan and Jarpen who were old friends and who share the same passion for metal music and folkloristic traditions.
In the early months the band was faced with numerous line-up problems and the changes in formation impede the following activity of the band.
Right from the beginning, Elvenking set themselves the objective of finding a formula which can combine power metal, medieval folk music and extreme sounds in a unique mixture, with lyrics based on the pagan worship of nature and on the tradition of folkloristic fairy-tales.

Elvenking are formed in October 1997, iniziative of the guitarists Aydan and Jarpen (once known as Dag'or'dil), old friends who share the same passion for metal music and for folkloristic traditions.
After considerable live experience, the band realises that the time is right to start thinking about recording a "promo" that may arouse the interest of record labels.
On the other hand, the new compositions of the band which will appear on the debut album "Heathenreel" show an "extreme" evolution inasmuch as the new sound-development focuses on the contrast between folk melodies (with the use of classical instruments such as flutes and fiddles) and aggressive riffs.

But the band's shaky history aside, the music is pretty much what you'd expect, a Blind Guardian-influenced collection of fantasy-themed power metal with some folk leanings.
Elvenking plays up the folk side by including a violinist in the band -- an oft-tried and rarely successful folk metal convention.
Elvenking succeeds better than most, though there are still quite a few times when the violin parts seem terribly out of place.

Elvenking : Wyrd - Review at Harvest Moon Music
Not your typical Italian metal band, Elvenking falls firmly in the Skyclad school of folk metal - folk melodies and instrumentation combined with elements of thrash and power metal.
The melodies are still present in abundance, and the band fully incorporates the violin and flute into the mix, but the symphonic and uplifting qualities found in today's Euro metal are just as prevalent.
Instead, Elvenking treats the listener to a rapid paced, galloping barrage of addictive riffs punctuated by operatic female vocals during the choruses.

If the first things Damnagoras wrote, were very power metal influenced and a little naive, for Heathenreel, the singer himself and the band wrote their best material ever, giving to the songs a particular feeling and leaving the passion for folkloristic tunes and legends influence the whole process.
The friends RAINDANCER and SOILMASTER (who both play for the power metal band Raintime) accepted as well, and to this line-up, WHISPERWIND, female vocalist and keyboard player was added, giving a particular celtic touch to the songs with her lovely voice.

With "The Winter Wake" half of the material was ready when I got back in the band, and the process to write the remaining songs was quite fast.
I think that when you look at Elvenking from now on, you'll have to get a mix of songs like "The Wanderer" representing the most melodic side, "The Winter Wake" representing the will of the band to do always something new and strong, and "Neverending Nights" for its slight more complicated structure and heavy riffs.
