Elfquest - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The main characters are the Wolfriders, a tribe of elves who became the rough equivalent of the Iroquois Native American nation of ferocious hunter/warriors who are closely allied with wolves who serve as mounts, hunting partners, and friends.
The elves are taken down a long tunnel toward what the trolls claim will be a land of bright promise, but is actually a trackless desert.
By contrast, the less sympathetic elves, the Gliders and the Go-backs, are depicted as belonging to highly conservative cultures: the Gliders are obsessed with preserving their culture from contaminaton from the outside, and the Go-backs are determined to return to a earlier ideal represented by the Palace, ancestral home to all the elves.

Elves (Elfquest) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The elves are descended from a spacegoing race known as the High Ones, who were accompanied by small workers (later to evolve into trolls) and winged flitters, later to become the preservers.
Thus the elves were both the cause and the result of a time paradox, because the legends the High Ones had seen were about their own time-shifted descendants.
Elves who form casual relationships with partners of either sex are called lovemates, and it is fairly common for an elf to have more than one lovemate at a time.

RPGnet: The Inside Scoop on Gaming
Elfquest was a huge hit during the 1980's; one of the first independent comics to take off, along with Cerebus, it had a huge audience, and is still going strong.
Basically, it's about a small tribe of feral, half-wolven elves driven from their home by a forest fire and fanatical humans; the tribe, called the Wolfriders, retreat through the caverns of the nearby trolls, but are doublecrossed by the troll king and dumped into the desert to die.
Elfquest is old, and it shows it; and there's nothing wrong with that, but using this game to simulate Elfquest is like using a Sherman tank to clean a cupboard.

When some of the elves moved north again with the warmer weather, they began to feel the telepathic presence of the Palace, and were instinctively drawn to it.
(Attunement is automatic for all elves, 10% per year cumulative for trolls and Preservers, and 1% per year non-cumulative for humans.) Close proximity (say, within 100 meters per kilogram) to a significant fragment (such as the miniature Palace) increases psionic abilities by 50%.
Once this is done, the elves involved may pool their Characteristics and abilities, adding them to perform tasks normally beyond the capacity of any one elf.

If the elves are simply the stereotypical good guys, and the humans, the stereotypical bad guys, then Elfquest is, quite simply, the presentation of a mythical, meaningless good in contrast to the inherent evil of man. But I do not think that Elfquest is an idealist tract of this type.
The "humans" of elfquest that are identified specifically as human, however, are generally portrayed as superstitious, ignorant and cruel.
But unless you agree with my fundamental point of view, that the elves are themselves nothing more than *us* with a symbolic frill or two, you'll be confined to the idea that they are simply one side of the good-evil dualism you absolutely despise.
