Milton Railway Station Campaign - Proposals
Once a station opens, they are unlikely to drive the couple of miles to Waterbeach (which has a good car park) when they could drive just half a mile to Milton station.
This is clearly not sufficient to support a major station, but we believe it could justify a station similar to that at Waterbeach (which has a population of under 6,000), just a few miles down the road.
Railtrack are undertaking a £1 billion programme of repairs and improvements at Britain’s 2,500 railway stations, being carried out between 1996 and the end of 2001.

The railway had helped the economic growth of the town in the early part of the twentieth century, but in the 1960s Lutterworth station became a casualty of ‘the Beeching cuts’ when many uneconomic lines were closed Trains have not run through the town since.
The railway came late to Lutterworth; it was not until 1899 that the station was opened.
The station was situated at the bottom of Ely Rd now renamed Station Road.

 A Ghost Story for Christmas
Arthur did not appear at Ely railway station to meet me and, not knowing the town, or being able to hail a cab at such a late hour (it was almost 10), I was forced to work my way as intuitively as I could toward the top of the hill.
Nurse was happy for us to continue our tour of the town and so it was that a couple of hours later we sat back from an excellent luncheon at the 'White Hart' and watched as Ely's residents milled around the market square on their daily travails.
It was an inauspicious start to my time in Ely, but more importantly it meant I was becoming increasingly late at the school.
