Mercury Records is a record label currently headquartered in the UK, and is a subsidiary of Universal Music Group.
Mercury Records was founded in Chicago, Illinois in 1945 by Irving Green, Berle Adams and Arthur Talmadge.
The first record in this new Mercury Olympian Series was "Pictures at an Exhibition" performed by Rafael Kubelik and the Chicago Symphony.

Verve Records is an American Jazz record label, founded by Norman Granz in 1956, which absorbed the catalogues of his earlier labels: Norgran Records and Clef Records (founded 1953).
But by now, new recordings began to decline and would cease altogether in the early 1970s.
Verve Records, became the Verve Music Group after PolyGram was merged with Seagram's Universal Music Group in 1998.

NPM completed his debut album as a leader in 1997, "Khmer", which focuses on a previously unknown blend of improvisation and hypnotically spinning beats, receiving extraordinary public and media response, and was honoured with the German Record Critics Award and a Norwegian Grammy.
In the end of year 2003 NPM receives the highly sought after culture price “Buddy”, in its decision the jury states: “NPM has developed a personal and distinctive musical expression and has marked himself as an instrumentalist and composer and is one of the musicians in Norway with the strongest international career”.
NPM is well known for his unique live performances, and born out of the successful world tour in 2002, “Streamer” was produced by the recordings of the amazing live performances at London's legendary Marquee and Tampere Jazz Festival in Finland.

Unfortunately the label often does not furnish much recording data and its releases sometimes mix together rare and common performances.
The label was only active for four years but in its time it had recordings from the likes of Dizzy Gillespie, Art Blakey, Rahsaan Roland Kirk, Gerry Mulligan and Oscar Peterson.
Some of the releases were reissued in the 1970s by Trip and by Polygram on CD in the 1990s but many remain out of print.

This 45-rpm set comes on four one-sided records, which means one side of the record is smooth, with no grooves cut into it.
Much of her recorded output from the 1950’s included unfortunate pop tunes in an effort to capture the crossover market.
Emarcy Records did a generally fine job of recording, and this transfer is faithful.

Almost directly after his discharge, he recorded with trumpet player Roy Stevens under the name of Manor All Stars.
There were a lot of radio broadcasts and recordings with Benny, but a major breakthrough came in December when Kai Recorded for the first time under his own name.
This Savoy recording was a milestone in modern jazz.

In 1986 Kenny recorded with Stan Getz the famed album Voyage, and the following year he toured Europe and the US as part of the tenor player's all star quartet, which featured Victor Lewis and Rufus Reid.
The music created by that group has been preserved in two albums that are acclaimed amongst the best ever recorded by Getz: Anniversary and Serenity, on EmArcy Records.
In 1991 Getz and Barron performed in duo format for four consecutive nights at the Cafe Monmartre in Copenhagen: the music was recorded and issued a little later by EmArcy under the title People time, and represents the highlight of an outstanding musical partnership.

This is apparently the second volume of odds ‘n’ sods from the period of Forbert’s four-record stint with Epic Records (or one of those CBS labels).
Despite the title and the look of the cover, this isn’t a live album, but it is a damn fine example of how good the Brown/Roach tandem was back in 1956.
These guys do a mid-tempo, crying, cringing mope-rock that probably convinces some people that they are incredibly sensitive guys with hurts and deep desires, but mostly convinces me that they don’t have any sincere bones in their bodies.

 Pete Kirchoff's Jazz Picks
The vocal interplay between these two jazz legends is great fun to listen to in the first of three highly recommended albums they recorded together for the Verve label in the late 1950’s.
While her vocal range had diminished by the 1950’s, especially when compared to the historic Columbia recordings from almost twenty years earlier, Lady Day compensated by bringing her formidable interpretive power to each standard included on this CD.
It’s hard to believe that the two towering figures of jazz never met formally in the recording studio until 1961 but, as the title suggests, that indeed was the case.

Encore Records, new and used 33-1/4, 45, 78 RPM records and 16" Transcriptions.
Most of the record shop owners are friends of mine (in the early days almost 15 years ago, they were collectors like me).

In 1987, Emarcy Records began a series of album releases of recordings by Erroll Garner (recorded on his own Octave Records label), which had never been released before.
Right now, we want to lead off with the brilliant liner notes by the noted actor/comedian/writer/pianist/composer Dudley Moore, who was a Garner afficionado for much of his life, starting at the age of 16 when he first heard a Garner recording.
Listening to this seletion of Garner's recordings was a chilling experience - chilling in the sense that one knows one is listening to an exception - one is listening to a phenomenon.

“Recorded by Stuff Smith and His Trio (Musicraft)”, 1945, further confirmation that the 1944 78 Savoy recording was never released until the LP era despite allocation of a 78 catalogue no. The sheet music confirms the correct form of the title: Is! Is!
This session was recorded at Universal Studios, Chicago, not in New York as previous discographies and LP/CD rereleases give in error – research assistance courtesy Dave Usher, telephone conversation with AB, 10 March 2003.
Recording date is apparently the same as broadcast date 3 September 1965, not ?1 or ?2 September 1965 as previously suggested.

Incidentally, the record company, Discovery, is no longer in business, and the chances of its reappearance seem remote.
Each of the musicians pictured with Parker recorded with him either on broadcasts, live recordings or studio dates, but all four of them are not present at the same time on any of them.
This title was first issued as a 10 inch disc (EmArcy 6026) in 1954, reissued as a 12 inch LP (EmArcy 36026) the following year.

 Top Rank Album Discography
Most of the output of the Top Rank Record label was recorded by the Rank Record company in England which is why the label has such an international flavor.
The music on the label is pretty forgettable schmaltz with the exception of the three albums by Jack Scott [319, 326 and 348], a Canadian who made some of the most distinctive rock and roll records of the late '50s.
Jaro Records was a jazz subsidiary label also established in 1959.

I am somewhat skeptical of the dating on this recording, which appears in the Bruyninckx and Raben discographies.
