Corporate Practice of Medicine: The EMCare SEC Report and Responses   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-02)
EMCare considers itself to be the largest staffing provider by number of contracts (6 % of total market) and has n on-compete clauses in most contracts.
Of course when Emcare gave us all a paycut of about $1000 to $1500 a month, without any notice at all, he didn't have much to say then either--though the rest of us were upset at this type of insensitive crass handling of physician employees.
However, I found it to be of only marginal difference versus EMCare, with their principal vice being that the senior partners were prone to opportunistically, and vigorously search for ways to disenfranchise the younger partners of non-monetary benefits.

The Craig Daily Press: TMH approves EmCare contracting
The idea to contract services from EmCare to manage the hospital's emergency room came on the heels of low scores from community members about the quality of care received and doctors' observations that a large number of patient complaints at the hospital originated in the ER.
EmCare is attempting to contract with current ER physicians, but it is not known yet which physicians were approached and which ones agreed.
Thompson said she anticipates EmCare will deal more with advisement and policy and will refer physicians only when needed.

AAEM members working for EmCare should address these events at their own institution and investigate whether this move will create an opportunity to seek independence and move into a democratic group practice model, the model favored by AAEM.
EMS physicians should also take note of the implications of Laidlaw's moving away from the large scale ambulance operations of AMR.
