Emmanuel Philibert, Duke of Savoy (July 8, 1528, Chambéry - August 30, 1580, Turin) was Duke of Savoy from 1553 to 1580.
Emmanuel Philibert was the only child of Charles III, Duke of Savoy and Beatrice of Portugal to reach adulthood.
By the Peace of Cateau Cambrésis between France and Spain, (1559) the duchy was restored to Emmanuel Philibert and he married Margaret of France, Duchess of Berry (1523-1574), sister to King Henry II.

The bishops of Albenga sold it in 1298 to the Dorias of Genoa, who in their turn disposed of it in 1576 to Emanuel Philibert of Savoy.
In the wars of the house of Savoy Oneglia often changed hands.
In i614 and 1649 the Spaniards and in 1623 and 1672 the Genoese obtained possession; in 1692 it had to repulse an attack by a French squadron; in 1744-1745 it was again occupied by the Spaniards, and in 1792 bombarded and burned by the French.

From October 1564 to the end of 1567 he was in Turin as court sculptor to Duke Emanuel-Philibert of Savoy; while there he made the model (untraced) for a huge bronze coat of arms intended for the main gateway into the citadel.
Settled in Paris in 1571, he and Martin Lefort (fl 1562; d 1603) were commissioned to prepare three under life-size bronze, female allegorical figures (Paris, Louvre) for the monument for the heart of Constable Anne de Montmorency, working to a design by Jean Bullant.
From 1576 Prieur was again working for Montmorency’s widow, Madeleine of Savoy, making their funerary monument, again to designs by Bullant, for St Martin, Montmorency.
