  EMBALMERS
Modern Embalmers provide the essential service of helping to protect public health by preparing remains for burial in conformity with laws of health and sanitation and are instrumental in preventing the spread of contagious diseases.
Embalmers must know and follow legal requirements covering the embalming process, including special procedures necessary for remains that are to be transported to other states or overseas, or where death was caused by an infectious disease.
Embalmers are often required to perform heavy lifting and may be outdoors for extended periods, sometimes in inclement weather.

The embalmers left the body in the powder for 35 to 40 days to allow enough time for the body to dry completely.
The embalmers then wrapped the body in a shroud and began methodically winding the bandages around the different parts of the body.
After the mummy was fully wrapped, the embalmers attached a rigid cartonnage cage to the body and affixed a funerary mask to the head.

 An Embalming Dream Team
There were some good seminars being run, but what we were looking at was something that really went to the DNA of the funeral home-the person who is actually doing the embalming.
In 1995 I was the chairman of the North American Division of the British Institute of Embalmers.
When I had a large embalming service and was hiring embalmers, I would try to be a little on the jolly side and say, "Well, what do you want to be when you grow up?" They would say, "Oh, I want to be a preneed salesman." Well, that was the end of the interview.

Embalming - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The first thing an embalmer should do is verify the identity of the deceased (normally via wrist or leg tags) and perform basic tests for signs of death, such as clouded-over corneas, lividity, and rigor mortis.
The embalming solution is injected through a mechanical pump and the embalmer massages the corpse to ensure a proper distribution of the embalming fluid.
For babies who have died, the embalmer applies a light cosmetic massage cream after embalming to provide a natural appearance; massage cream is also used on the lips to prevent them from dehydrating, for the infant's mouth is often left open a little bit for a more natural expression.

Mummification   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-07)
There may even have been the possibility of falling victim to a ritualistic stoning: Human bodies were thought to be inviolate (which did not deter the Egyptians from mutilating their dead enemies).
One may assume that it was at some distance from human habitation, as mummification was not without environmental impact, and even people used to strong odours may have objected to having such an establishment in their vicinity.
These changes were the result of countless generations of embalmers improving their technique and passing on this knowledge to their successors.

Lenin's Embalmers, by Ilya Zbarsky and Samuel Hutchinson, is the story of the eccentric crew who were handed the scientifically and politically volatile assignment of mummifying Lenin's body -- a task somewhere between deifying a pharaoh and preserving the bones of a saint.
Ilya Zbarsky, the son of one of Lenin's embalmers, tells the outrageous story of his father, the era, and the secret goings-on behind the mausoleum walls.
It fortifies his account of the scientific challenge the embalmers faced, and of his father's and his own surprising survival through such a dangerous time.
