Embolotherium - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Embolotherium ('battering ram beast') is an extinct genus of brontothere that lived in Mongolia during the late Eocene period.
This hypothesis is suggested by the fact that the bony nasal cavity extends to the peak of the ram, thus implying that the nasal chamber was greatly elevated, possibly creating a resonating chamber.
Other supposed species of Embolotherium are probably synonymous with these two species and were originally based on juvenile skulls, poorly preserved fossil material, or specimens that are not significantly different from either E.

 The Brontotheres/Titanotheres
The bony "horn" of Embolotherium is considerably larger than the knobs seen on Brontops or Brontotherium.
Embolotherium's eyes were set well forward, at the base of the horn, to allow it to see.
Embolotherium had a shallow skull with a brain the size of a human fist.

The brontotheres, such as Embolotherium, lived in huge herd on the plains of Mongolia at the eastern end of the Tethys Sea between Eurasia and Africa.
The fossils of Embolotherium show that they had bony growths on the ends of their noses.
This means that they were not strong like a rhino's horn, and would have shattered painfully if used as a ram (despite 'Embolotherium' meaning 'battering ram beast').

It lumhered across the plains of Mongolia, scavenging from the carcasses of huge herbivores such as Embolotherium, a 4.5-metre (15-feet) long rhinoceros-like beast with a grotesque head.

 BBC - Science and Nature - Beasts - Evidence - Programme 2 - Brontothere
Answer: The fossils of Embolotherium (the brontothere featured in the series) show that they have bony growths on the ends of their noses.
These aren't like horns, which are made of keratin (the substance that hair and fingernails is made of).
This means that they were more brittle a rhino's horn, and would have shattered painfully if used as a ram (despite 'Embolotherium' meaning 'battering ram beast').

 REVIEW WWB EPISODE II
The brontotheres did not look so good in my opinion - too much bending in their forelimbs and too shiny (a la dromaeosaurs in JPIII).
I think they were based on _Embolotherium_, but, hold on...
The horn shape was certainly right for _Embolotherium_, plus it was hailed as one of the very last brontotheres, so this would fit.
