 Embrace @ Brixton Academy, London
Embrace troop on stage to healthy applause, which quickly intensifies when the first bars of recent single Ashes are unleashed.
Live, Embrace are very much a "front man and the rest" kind of band, although Danny does introduce the other band members in one of the instrumental sections, and draws attention when his brother Richard does some particularly good backing vocals or guitar-playing.
Whilst to many, Embrace's music is on the verge of dull and Danny's vocals are not quite all they could be, tonight they have triumphed in the eyes of the Brixton Academy crowd, with plenty for old fans and recent converts alike.

The thing about us - our first album we got signed and we were straight to doing press and radio and TV and all this attention, and we just thought to ourselves, 'oh this must be what happens to signed bands", but it's not what happens to signed bands, it's what happens to good bands.

Embrace are very fond of playing guerrilla gigs in unusual places, which are now becoming increasingly ambitious.
This fourth album has got, I would say, as many tunes on it as the first one, but for the first time we've caught some of that live feel, that we've never really caught on record, which is exciting.

If there is any downside to this album, it's simply that it doesn't have the energy and feeling of life that "Out of Nothing" does, and the album feels kind of sleepy.
This is easily the best track on the album, and if you don't love this song after a couple listens, this is probably not the band for you (and you and I would have very different musical tastes apparently).
Some of the instrumentation on the keyboards is a little cheesy, which is rare for this band, but the chorus is definitely catchy, and I challenge you to not have it stuck in your head after listening to this song (and that's not a bad thing in this case).

Embrace have produced some glorious songs, so it is a shame that they are remembered by people unfamiliar with their work for the anthemic Come Back To What You Know, rather than the enduringly beautiful Fireworks.
Embrace are well-known for their epics, and they open and close the album with two of their best yet: 'Over' has a beautiful melody and floats along like a butterfly that's had too much nectar; 'Satellites' features Danny's best vocals yet, and the last minute of the song is indescribably lovely.
He's also a clever man. By cunningly starting and finishing the album with two of the most impressive songs he or anyone else will ever write, (Over and Satellites), the largely pedestrian mid-section is effectively disguised.

The band's one album, taken from two separate mid-'80s recording sessions, finds the fusion of Faith's instrumentalists and Minor Threat's singer -- Ian MacKaye himself, older brother of Faith's singer Alex -- a successful enough blast of post-hardcore.
It's no surprise per se that MacKaye wanted to push himself more strongly in future; compared to Fugazi, Embrace is fine but nowhere near as gripping or inventive.
Compared to both Faith's and Minor Threat's work in general, Embrace tries for something a touch poppier and a little less immediately frenetic, like a pause for breath after a full-on rampage.

Due to the recent success of other mid-tempo U.K. bands like Coldplay, Travis and Starsailor, Embrace (music) might be dismissed as a yet another copycat act.
The second track, "Gravity," shows a definite Coldplay influence with its opening piano and longing lyrics, but that's a given: the track was co-written and donated to Embrace by Coldplay frontman Chris Martin, who deems the band a significant influence.
Elements like the string sections in "Looking as You Are," the stunning background chorus amid the wall-of-sound guitars in "Someday" and the spiritual space-jam element to "New Life" show that Embrace is still a step ahead of the followers.

Embrace, MP3 Album Music Download at eMusic
Anup's Embrace is an album of Indian sitar music, but it certainly isn't sitar music in the strict Indian classical sense; no one will mistake this 2003 release for a Ravi Shankar session.
You will never hear synthesizers on a true Indian classical album, but they're all over Embrace -- and you will never hear "Jingle Bells" in an Indian classical setting, but Anup does, in fact, offer an unlikely arrangement of that American Christmas standard (although original compositions dominate the CD).
By 2003 standards, Embrace isn't innovative or groundbreaking -- in the neo-Indian realm, there have been plenty of other people who used the sitar for funk, rock, electronica, and club/dance purposes.
