DC Comics Message Boards: Who is to blame for Emerald Twilight? ...
I think it was intended as a reboot to attract new fans, DC do it with the Flash all the time (you would of thought that a guy who can run at light speed could avoid dying for five minutes, didn't the latest Flash only have about ten issues or something?).
I'm all for a new age to be ushered in with all the characters that have become lifeless and boring lately.
Out of the whole Emerald Twighlight, we got a great character in Kyle, a deeper Hal, and fans who are emotinally invested in their characters, which wasn't the case before emerald twighlight.

Emerald Twilight resulted in a complete re-set of the Green Lantern corner of the DC Universe.
I still maintain that Hal Jordan was not insane at any point in Emerald Twilight (with the possible exception of killing Kilowog); those are the acts of a grieving, angry, but rational man with a lot of good reasons to be angry.
Emerald Twilight is a haunting piece that will stay with me for a long time-- partly because I remember what Hal was and seeing him fall so completely is just painful.

This is an important milestone in the history of Green Lantern (possibly the most important in recent decades) and I'd recommend it seriously for everyone interested in the evolution of the GL mythos.

The truth is, if I hadn't written Emerald Twilight, someone else would have, and the story would have been substantially the same.
Something that Marz never planned for was the return of Hal Jordan and even though the character made a re-appearance in "Emerald Knights," circa "Green Lantern #100," Kyle was to be the one GL even though Marz would have liked for a version of Hal to be around.
Marz also added, "The sales boost obviously came from 'Emerald Twilight,' and the furor generated by Hal's exit and a new GL taking his place.

In issue #8, Hal Jordan was assigned the job of recruiter, and by the end of issue #13, the GLC numbered eight members: Hal Jordan, John Stewart and Guy Gardner (all of Earth), Kilowog of Bolovax Vik, Chaselon of Barrio III, Larvox of Sputa, G'nort of G'newt and Brik of Dryad.
In "Emerald Fallout," Chaselon and six recruits are shown dead, allegedly killed by Hal Jordan according to eye-witness testimony.

Emerald Twilight is one of the greatest comics I have ever read.
When this story first appeared about nine years ago as part of DC's "Zero Hour," I glanced at it and hated it, taking it as the ultimate proof that DC Comics had no respect for its characters in the early 90's.
Many years later, Marz appears to have repented for what he did to a character so many fans loved, and the result was the brilliant story Emerald Knights, which is available as a graphic novel and which I would highly recommend.

Bureau 42 | Green Lantern - "Emerald Twilight / New Dawn"
DC originally published "Emerald Twilight" (issues 48-50) in one collection, and "A New Dawn" (issues 51-55) in another collection.
Now, they've decided to make a single collection of both story arcs, which is mildly irritating, since I had one, and now have to buy it again if I want a new copy of the other.
(I think the "Emerald Twilight" story might have been compressed to make sure it ended at issue 50.) The next few issues work a lot better for me in some ways.

I do think "Emerald Twilight was a truly bad story, and I wish a classic character such as Green Lantern hadn't died in such a bad story.
I think it's been long enough (nine years) that DC's heirarchy has had time enough to change so that the guys defending "Emerald Twilight" are no longer in a position to do so (Mike Carlin, for example, whose job has been superceded in large part by Dan DiDio).
I've been thinking a lot about this, and since I stopped reading before Emerald Twilight and only started reading comics again recently, it wouldn't be that strange to see Hal Jordan back as a GL.

All of which is obviously my opinion, as demonstrated by the qualifying words "seems," "believe," "may" and "remains to be seen." I can't believe anyone is still seriously confused to the fact that this is only my reading of the issues and my opinion.
So, let me be perfectly clear to all reading this: I believe that Sinestro will be revealed as the mastermind behind Hal's possession, which would also make him indirectly responsible for EMERALD TWILIGHT.
