Stations are broken up into 3 Metcard ticketing zones (some stations are in two zones, where tickets for either zone may be used), as well as the City Saver area, which is within Zone 1 and covers the central business district.

The turntable was purchased in 1987 from the Victorian Railways and began operating at Emerald in 1990.
The station and building were rebuilt, along with the re-laying of the track for the opening of the line to Gembrook.
The station is still important however, as all the carriage maintenance and rebuilding work is done in the adjacent workshops.

At the first election for the Melbourne city council, held on 1 December 1842, he was elected a councillor for the Bourke ward, and except for a short interval, he was on the council for the remainder of his life.
Though not in parliament he was appointed colonial secretary and minister for railways in the Mitchell government in May 1919, a fortnight later was elected a member of the legislative assembly, and exchanged the portfolio of colonial secretary for those of mines, industries and forests.
During his 56 years of residence at Melbourne he had much influence on the cultural life of the city.

Near the "Puffing Billy" station there is a railway museum, the Menzies Creek store and tea room, the fire station and a kindergarten which operates in the public hall.
It was the second station from Belgrave on the narrow gauge railway to Gembrook, now the "Puffing Billy" scenic railway.
The station, however, was named Aura after a nearby property, and the two names co-existed until the 1940s.

I visited the railway in November 2002 on Melbourne Cup day thinking that the railway would be fairly quiet.
The railway was originally used as a tool to try and connect up some of the remote settlements in the area; however, after a landslide in 1953, the line was closed, as it had become un-economic to operate.
If you look at the style of the two railways they are clearly similar, and of course the locos are of the same pattern.
