Prince St. Imre, also Henricus, Emeric, Emmerich, Emericus or Americus (Székesfehérvár, 1007 (1000?) – Veszprém, September 2, 1031) was the son of Stephen I of Hungary.
He was educated by Bishop Gerhard (Gerard Sagredo; Saint Gellert) from the age of 15 to 23.

Saint Astricus[?] served as Stephen's advisor, and Stephen also had Saint Gerard Sagredo[?] as the tutor for his son Saint Emeric[?] (Imre).
He often disguised himself as a peasant whenever he traveled, and freely gave money to any poor people he met (in one account, Stephen was beaten and robbed by a group of beggars he was giving alms to, but he forgave them and spared their lives).
He intended to retire to a life of holy contemplation and hand the kingdom over to his only son Emeric[?] (Imre), but in 1031 Emeric[?] was wounded in an unfortunate hunting accident and died.

BD EMERIC (A.D. The ninth centenary of the death of Bd Emeric (Imre) was kept with solemnity in Hungary in 1931, but not many reliable particulars of his short life are available.
The authenticity of Stepen's "instructions" to his son is denied, but he was desirous of handing over some of his responsibilities to Emeric (it is not true that he resigned his crown to him); before this could be done Emeric was killed while hunting.
The bodies of father and son were "elevated" together in 1083, and he is generally referred to as Saint Emeric, but he is called only beatus in the Roman Martyrology.

Emeric was destined to inherit the traditions of his ancestors, which on the maternal side were those of the German rulers of the Holy Roman Empire, and the paternal, the equestrian nomad tradition.
It was also recorded that St. Emeric's death was due to a tragic accident that occurred when he was killed by a wild boar during a hunting expedition Sept. 2, 1031.

Emeric was declared a saint during a solemn historic event at Székesféhervár, Hungary in 1083AD, 52 years after his death, due to his popularity in Hungary and Poland.
Emeric was the last child born of their marriage and the only one to survive infancy.
Stephen was desirous of handling some of his responsibilities to Emeric but it is not true that he resigned his crown to him.

On June 16, 1989, Orbán gave a speech at Hero's Square on the occasion of the reburial of Imre Nagy, the revolutionary Prime Minister executed by the Soviets, which brought him wide political acclaim.
Following his speech, Orbán presented St. Emeric's church with a flag commemorating Hungary's 1000 years of nationhood.
One side bore the Hungarian Coat of Arms with the Holy Crown of St, St. Stephen and the words "Magyar Millenium." The flag's reverse side was blank.
