Padraig Harrington picked up the £514,534 first prize in the Dunhill Links Championship at St Andrews as he holed two crucial putts en route to defeating Eduardo Romero at the second extra hole.
In Harrington's eyes it helped rather than hindered to be yoked to an amateur partner for the week.
Harrington seemed to be heading for what would have been his 17th second-place finish on the European Tour when he walked on to the 18th green a shot behind Romero yesterday.

Cambridge, MD The Emerson C. Harrington Memorial Drawbridge opened on October 26, 1935, and was the longest continuous span in the State of Maryland.
After 52 years of service, after suffering many mechanical problems with it's draw mechanisms, and with its substandard bridge decking, the Harrington bridge was retired from service, as the new Frederick C. Malkus bridge opened in May of 1987.
The official dedication plaque for the Harrington bridge was removed from it's original location on the foot of the bridge, and onto a special monument containing the dedication plaques of both the Malkus and Harrington bridges.

Emerson Columbus Harrington was born on March 26, 1864, at Madison in Dorchester County.
In 1915 he was elected governor on a platform of reform and readily embraced the recommendations of a bi-partisan commission on economy and efficiency in State Government headed by Frank Goodnow, the president of The Johns Hopkins University.
Under Governor Harrington, Maryland adopted a balanced budget amendment to the Constitution, and an executive budget process still in use today.
