ALFRED, LORD TENNYSON   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-02)
Tennyson's career at Cambridge was interrupted and finally broken off in 1831 by family dissensions and financial need, and he returned home to study and practice the craft of poetry.
Tennyson was so affected that he withdrew from ordinary activities; even his health was impaired.
For despite Tennyson's fascination with technological developments, he was essentially a poet of the countryside, a man whose whole being was conditioned by the recurring rhythms of rural rather than urban life.

His eldest son, Arthur Henry Hallam--the "A.H.H." of Tennyson's In Memoriam, and by the testimony of his contemporaries a man of the most brilliant promise--died in 1833 at the age of twenty-two.
The book may be regarded as a general view of early modern history, preparatory to the more detailed treatment of special lines of inquiry carried out in his subsequent works, although Hallam's original intention was to continue the work on the scale on which it had been begun.
Hallam is the "A. H." of the dedication of In Memoriam and Tennyson not only dedicated one of his greatest poems to Hallam, but named his elder son after his late friend.

From Avalon to Iberia: The Contemporary Literary Returns of King Arthur in the Languages of Spain
Zorrilla was supposed to translate all the Idylls of the King by Tennyson, but he finally half-translated only one of them: "Merlin and Vivien." His translated poem can be defined as a long legend somewhere between a very free translation and an original work.
Tennyson was mainly known in Spain thanks to the prose translations made by Vicente de Arana, a Basque industrialist that also had a good taste in poetry.
Although this legend is written in Spanish, Manuel Murguia, the writer of the introduction, is regarded as the Patriarch of modern letters in the Galician language.

Emilia was always piquant, because she was indifferent; she had never made an effort in her life, and she had no respect for persons.
Had Emilia made one effort to please him, once concealed a dislike, once affected a preference, the spell might have been broken.
Somehow it was very hard for him to talk sentiment to Emilia; he instinctively saw she disliked it, and indeed he liked her for not approving the stiff phrases which were all he could command.

This paper will contrast and compare Shakespeare's Emilia in "Othello" with Henrik Isben's Nora, who is the main character in his play called "A Doll's House".
By evaluating the differences and similarities of these two women we can better understand the complexities that make them change so much in the stories that they are placed in.

I think one of the biggest problems I have with writing one-shots that won't fit into the fabric of the main story is that, while I honestly believe there was romantic love between Tennyson and Hallam, I don't think it was erotic, or even expressed.
I don't think Tennyson has to think about kissing or touching Hallam to be in love with him.
I'm eventually going to go through Hallam's letters to Tennyson's sister Emilia, because their relationship is the biggest factor that anti-Tennysallam scholars use in disproving my theory [it sounds so official when I put it that way ^^].
