Emilio Colombo (born April 14 1920) is an Italian diplomat and politician.
Born in Potenza, Basilicata, Colombo entered politics as a member of the Christian Democratic Party, and having held several cabinet posts, he was Prime Minister of Italy from 1970 until his resignation in 1972.
Later he became the President of the European Parliament (occupying that office from 1977 until 1979) and Foreign Minister of Italy (from 1980 until 1983, and again from 1992 until 1993).

Colombo suggested that an increase in the strength of the force might require the participation of other countries, but he declined to identify potential contributors.
Colombo emphasized that consensus was essential in the establishment of guidelines on trade with the Soviet Union.

One of Italy's most honoured statesmen, former prime minister Emilio Colombo, 83, has stunned prosecutors in Rome by telling them he is a regular cocaine user.
Two of those arrested were Mr Colombo's bodyguards, who were accused of placing orders for cocaine with a dealer three or four times a week.
In his statement, Mr Colombo is reported to have acknowledged taking cocaine from an alleged pusher - Giuseppe Martello - who is also accused of involvement in the supply of prostitutes.

Not only is Mr Emilio Colombo, 83, one of the most respected statesman in Italy, he received the nation's highest political honour this year when President Carlo Azeglio Ciampi gave him a permanent seat in the upper house of parliament.
Mr Colombo, a former president of the European Parliament, made his disclosure voluntarily to prosecutors investigating a ring alleged to have supplied drugs and prostitutes to high society figures.
Mr Colombo told prosecutors that the two were innocent and that he was the true buyer.

In 2003 the former prime minister Emilio Colombo admitted that he had purchased cocaine after his drug dealer was arrested but said it was for “therapeutic purposes”.
Last year, during a debate on Italy’s drug law, former deputy prime minister Gianfranco Fini admitted having smoked a joint once while he was on holiday in Jamaica; Pierferdinando Casini also said he had tried the drug, prompting former prime minister Silvio Berlusconi to joke: “While those two were taking drugs, I was working.”
