Richard Hughes was born in Weybridge, Surrey, of Welsh ancestry, as the son of Arthur and Louisa Grace (Warren) Hughes.
Hughes lectured on literature at the University of London, was active in Welsh church affairs, and travelled frequently in Greece and Morocco.
Emily's hysterical recollection of the murder is mistakenly used to indict the pirates.

I'm really hoping Miki Ando goes for the quad, Kimmie Meisner decides to do a Triple Axel, and Emily Hughes continues showing her patented Hughes spunk (as regular readers of this blog know, I have deeply personal reasons for loving the entire Hughes family).
(Sidenote: Knowing the Hughes family the way I do, I wouldn't be surprised if Emily's folks pile her in a car and start driving for some open airport.
Emily will become the story of the Games, so Sasha will try to win attention back by going out there and trying something spectacular.

On this day in 1967 Langston Hughes died, aged sixty-five.
Hughes was one of the most influential and respected of Black American voices in the middle decades of the century, writing prolifically in many genres, and almost exclusively on racial themes.
It spoke of Black writers and poets, 'who would surrender racial pride in the name of a false integration,' where a talented Black writer would prefer to be considered a poet, not a Black poet, which to Hughes meant he subconsciously wanted to write like a white poet.
