Emily Watson plays a savant idiot with hopes of becoming a private eye, her performance is amazing, but the supporting character's were very bad, detracted from the movie.
Although Emily Watson could not steal the stage for this movie, it was because she was being rather experimental, as her character was a dusty attitude mixed with a nonchalanted flair.
Sadly, Emily Watson's early movies had savage sex scenes rather than the subtle, passionate sex scenes of her later movies, but it was still a joy to watch (Non perversely of course).
