Molts usually begin on the belly and spread to the sides and back, finishing with the tail.
The autumn molt (brown to white) begins in October and is usually complete by late November or early December.

When the nest is threatened, nestling burrowing owls (Speotyto cunicularia) emit a buzzing call that resembles the warning buzz of the rattlesnake, a frequent inhabitant of rodent burrows.
In the fall, only a few weeks after its acquisition, this plumage is replaced in a complete molt that introduces a plumage identical to that of the adult.
In the larger owls that have been extensively studied (several species of Bubo), the juvenile plumage resembles the adult except that in B. nipalensis and B. sumatranus it is mostly white, with a different pattern of fl marking from the adult.

Southern Flying Squirrels experience a partial molt of the head and neck only in April and may.   Males and nonlactating females start molting first, lactating females undergo the partial molt after their spring litters are three to six weeks old.
The second molt occurs again in the months of July or August, but instead of the molt stopping at the base of their necks, it continues down the back, where it becomes irregular.
Daily Activity: Flying squirrels are nocturnal, which means they sleep during the day in the sanctity of their nests, and forage at night, in which they glide from treetop to treetop in search of edible nutrient.
