Emma Peel - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Avengers, John Steed (Patrick Macnee) and Emma Peel (Diana Rigg), appear on the cover of a 1994 reprint of an Avengers novel co-written by Macnee.
Emma Peel was a fictional television spy played by Diana Rigg in the British 1960s adventure series The Avengers.
Emma Peel was replaced by the much younger agent Tara King played by actress Linda Thorson, but appeared one last time in an episode of The New Avengers entitled "K is for Kill." Rigg had declined an offer to appear on the series, so stock footage of her from an Avengers episode was used instead.

Arriving in the fourth season of an ongoing series, the character of Emma Peel was in the awkward position of replacing the very popular Cathy Gale (Honor Blackman), the first female TV protagonist to be given equal dramatic weight with her small screen co-star.
Peel would continue the trend by taking Gale's development one step further and feminizing a character who not only carried the action of each hour, but provided quirky commentary with an elegance befitting the changing style of the series.
