  Kamehameha IV - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Kamehameha IV, born Alexander Liholiho ‘Iolani, reigned as the fourth king of the united Kingdom of Hawai‘i from 11 January 1855 to 30 November 1863.
Alexander was born on 9 February 1834 in Honolulu on the island of O‘ahu to Mataio Kekuanaoa, Governor of Hawai‘i, and Kinau, the Kuhina Nui or Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Hawai‘i.
Alexander (as Kamehameha) and Emma are remembered with a feast day on the liturgical calendar of the Episcopal Church in the United States of America on 28 November.

East Hawaii (big island) is not known for its beaches, the shores are mainly rocky lava, but there are a few nice beaches and almost all are filled mainly with locals or knowledgable/frequent visitors (tourists to the big island come here for the volcano, the scenery and the observatories..
Interestingly, NONE of the ants in Hawaii that are native to the islands, all 40 some species have come here in the last 200 years and on top of being a bit of an annoyance, they have had a detrimental effect on native plants and animals.
We had fun, especially Emma who was very good at running after and gathering the candy the parade participants were throwing and was able to visit with her friend Lili (adopted daughter of a Lesbian couple we know who spend their summers on the big island).

Queen Emma spent many happy and memorable moments with her husband, King Kamehameha IV and their young son, Prince Albert Edward at the "Hanaiakamalama." The young prince was an instant and intimate part of the royal couple's private life and he was taken nearly everywhere they went.
It is sad to note, however, that the little prince who rekindled the hopes of the Hawaiians for a successor to the throne, died in 1862 at the tender age of four.
Queen Emma died in 1885 and after her death the Hawaiian Monarchial Government bought the "Hanaiakamalama." In the early 1900s there were plans to build a park with a baseball field where the home was located.

I have been incredibly lucky to live in the beautiful natural areas of Hawaii, with its gorgeous landscapes of waterfalls, lava fields, valleys and rainforests.
In Hawaii, nature affects everyone in the community: the tourists that flock to our clean beaches, the nature-worshipping ancient Hawaiian culture, the scientists who study the evolutionary wonders, the residents who depend on quality watersheds, etc. I feel that, by striving to protect the environment, I am also indirectly helping the people of Hawaii also.
Though I often promote environmentalism because of practical reasons, places like Hawaii inspire people like me to love and protect the environment, and gorgeous places and exotic and amazing species must also be preserved for eternity.
