The town of Emmet was established on December 20, 1888 and the first town meeting was held on April 2, 1889.
The Town of Emmet hall is located in Halder near the geographic center of the township, just south of state highway 153.
The Emmet town hall was built in the late 1930's and serves as the regular town meeting and polling place today.

Emmet Swimming formed in 1991 while students at George Mason University in Fairfax, VA. Emmet Swimming is Todd Watts on vocals and guitar, Luke Michel on bass, Erik Wenberg on guitars and vocals, and drummer Derrick Decker, who replaced original drummer Tamer Eid.
Emmet Swimming released their indie debut, Dark When the Snow Falls, in 1993, which was deemed Debut Album of the Year by the Washington Area Music Association.
Emmet Swimming was popular, especially with college students, for their intense live shows and their seemingly contradictory mix of upbeat music and somber lyrics.

The father of the Emmets was a gallant soldier of the War of 1812, and at one time lived in the old brown frame house at the intersection of Ramsey and West Seventh streets, recently demolished.

Betty Balian is the wife of Moose Balian, 44, of the town of Lebanon, who has been charged with failure to stop after the Sept. 5 accident in the town of Emmet.
Last month Betty Balian was censured by her colleagues on allegations of trying to influence the investigation into Gengler's death through e-mails with the former sheriff and the county board chairman.
Signatures are only being sought by residents who reside in the town of Lebanon and the second ward of Emmet, the district Balian represents on the board.
