Emmett Matthew Hall was born in Saint-Colomban, Quebec, on November 29, 1898.
A partner in the law firm of Hall and Maguire, he became president of the Law Society of Saskatchewan in 1952.
Justice Hall died on November 12, 1995, at the age of 96.

Hall, Emmett Matthew, lawyer, judge (b at St-Colomban, Qué 9 Nov 1898; d at Saskatoon 11 Nov 1995).
A classmate of John G., he graduated in law from the University of Saskatchewan in 1919 and was appointed chief justice Court of Queen's Bench for Saskatchewan in 1957.
Hall chaired reports on a national health scheme for Canada (1964), the Ontario primary- and secondary-school programs (1968), railway arbitration (1973), provincial court structure in Saskatchewan (1974) and grain handling and transportation in western Canada (1977), but is best remembered for the Committee on Aims and Objectives of Education (1968).

Hall went on to rebuke the Court of Appeal’s representation of indigenous society as primitive: "In so saying this in 1970, he [Davey] was assessing the Indian culture of 1858 by the same standards that the Europeans applied to the Indians of North America two or more centuries before."
Therefore, it must be accepted that indigenous peoples at the time of European settlement lived in societies that were equal in standing to that of the settlers and therefore had rights that required recognition by the settlers and their sovereign.
Applying this perspective to the Calder case, Hall concluded that, at the time of European settlement: "What emerges from the … evidence is that the Nishgas [Nisga’as] in fact are and were from time immemorial a distinctive cultural entity with concepts of ownership indigenous to their culture and capable of articulation under the common law."

Saskatchewan's First "father of health care" was Dr. J.M. Uhrich, the Minister of Health in the 1920s when the first tax funded health care programs were introduced at the municipal level and when Saskatchewan developed free medical treatment for those with tuberculosis.
Emmett Matthew Hall was a jurist and chair of the 1964 Royal Commission on health care in Canada which recommended the nationwide adoption of Saskatchewan's system of public insurance for both hospitalization and out-of-hospital medical services.

 Elizabeth Hall Cemetery, Logan County, Arkansas
The land for the cemetery was given by my great-grandfather Lowrey as a burial place for Elizabeth Real (also known as Elizabeth Hall) who, according to family history, died on a wagon train passing along the old military road that ran in front of his farm.
They asked for a place to bury her and my great-grandfather told them they could bury her on the hill on the backside of the farm.
This memorial marker was placed in 1975 by the Elizabeth Hall Cemetery Association.
