User talk:Jefu - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Thus I question the 'Japanese' year for the death of Emperor Konin of Japan as '781'.
Because the last year of Emperor Konin's reign appears to have been designated as the Teno era (if the lists of nengo eras are not garbled by this same translation problem), his death erroneously given as December 23, 781 was really Teno 1 Month 12 Day 23 in the true Japanese calendar.
By recent tradition an emperor's posthumous name takes the same name as the era over which he (or possibly soon, she) reigned, but Heisei should not be mistaken as an adjective.

 Emperors of Japan - SamuraiWiki
The succession of Emperors as described in the Nihon Shoki and the Kojiki cannot be taken at face-value.
Emperor Sujin is believed to have been the first "historical" Emperor (being the first Emperor to rule in the growing Yamato region) after the tribal confederacies that had held power previously--this does not mean, however, that he and those that followed did not have highly ficionalized lives.
This assertion could very well apply to many other early Emperors, while others are most likely composite figures--an amalgamation of various important figures in early Japan.
