The "Jiedushi of Dingnan" (定難節度使) was Li Jiqian of 10th and 11th century China.
He was awarded the position of military governor (jiedushi) of Dingnan, and King of Xiping by Emperor Zhenzong of Song China.
It is believed that as Emperor Zhenzong aceeded the throne he bestowed this position, along with the recognition of Li Jiqian's new Empire of Xia, to avoid lengthy and expensive military campaigns.

Emperor Zhenzong (December 23, 968 - March 23, 1022) was the third emperor of the Song Dynasty of China.
Zhenzong's reign was noted for the consolidation of power and the strengthening of the dynasty.
Zhenzong founded the world's most celebrated ceramic kiln at JingDeZhen in 1004, which continued to produce porcelain for China's imperial use until the fall of the Qing Dynasty 900 years later.

During the Song Dynasty, there were many threats from the northern borders by the Khitans (契丹) from the Liao Dynasty (遼朝), Tanguts from the Western Xia (西夏) Dynasty, and the Jurchens (女真)from the Jin dynasty (金朝).
The reason was that Qinzong, the last emperor of the Northern Song was living in Jin-imposed exile in Manchuria and had a good chance of being recalled to the throne should the Jin Dynasty be destroyed.
It is also in their invasion of Southern Song, that the Mongols suffered some of the most humilating defeats, notably the death of Mongke Khan in action, the first and only Khan ever to be killed in an invasion launched by Mongols.

Xiaozong was the 7th generation descendant of Emperor Taizu, the founder of the Song Dynasty.
Zhao Weixian was the second son of Zhao Defang (趙德芳) (959-981), known posthumously as Prince Kanghui of Qin (秦康惠王), who was a first cousin of Emperor Zhenzong, and the second surviving son of Emperor Taizu.
