		Empetus is profoundly rhythmic recording, with dashes of ambient atmospheric texture here and there adding a luminous aura of color to each of the tracks.
		Empetus, like many of his early recorded works, has a bit of a Berlin-school feel, ala Klaus Schulze, Tangerine Dream, and Ashra, but there's something about, even, Steve Roach's earliest work that is distinctly American in flavor and composition.

	Music : Empetus
		Release in 1986, this is only Roach's fourth album after "Structures From Silence." "Empetus" is thus definitely for daytime listening, as its backbeats are uptempo, quick and syncopated.
		The twinkly track 7, "Urge," with its well-placed drum fills gives a solid middle-to-end that leads into tracks 8 and 9, "Distance is Near", which usher one last rush before tapering off into the perfectly mellowed "The Memory," which is far too short at only six minutes.
		With this track we get another look into the future, where you could swear you were listing to the 1988 milestone, "Quiet Music." Steve Roach clearly shows his variety and talent on "Empetus," and for that reason alone this makes an excellent album for the would-be Roach fan.

		The first CD I ever heard by Steve Roach, 'Dreamtime Return' still stands the test of time as one of his hallmarks.
		Having experimented on his earlier works with both sequencer-driven music ('Empetus') and minimal expanses of ambience ('Structures From Silence'), this 2-CD set found Roach coming into his own.
		His ability to blend futuristic space themes with primitive tribal sounds came into being on this album, inspired by the aboriginal culture.

		Legendary Pink Dots bassist Ryan Moore (aided with some known and some uncredited musicians) takes a break from his group's psychedelic/progressive musings for a fun exploration of dub music.
		The album is short and sweet, clocking in at about 35 minutes, but Moore focuses his efforts on shorter quality works with melodic empetus, unlike the many recent dub-influenced ambient and dance records which just loop endlessly and never progress.
		I generally have not been a huge fan of dub music.
