  Billabong Boardgamers: Empire Builder review
In Empire Builder, you are a wealthy rail baron poised to build a great rail network across North America, and make your fortune moving goods from one part of the continent to another.
Empire Builder is the flagship of Mayfair's so-called 'crayon' railway games, and spawned many sequels (notably Eurorails and Iron Dragon) and a second edition of itself (which is supposed to be significantly better than the first edition).
Empire Builder really starts to move at quite a pace once players have built a fair bit of rail, since it's then down to moving the trains and collecting or unloading goods.

 RPGnet: Review of Empire Builder
Though Empire Builder wasn't released until 1980, it and 1829 have probably been the most sucessful railroad games to date, each one leading to a half-dozen or more spin-offs, each using the same core system of its progenitor.
Empire Builder (and spin-offs) is very much a game of its time and place.
Empire Builder is a classic that has sufficiently influenced the genre, that it's difficult to go back and say "what works" and "why is it good".

The website claims the Empire Builder was three years in the design process and after using the bag for a few weeks now I don’t find that fact that hard to believe.

The Empire Builder is designed to accomodate a laptop in conjunction with either the Tom Bihn Brain Cell or the Tom Bihn Soft Cell which we’ll take a look at next.
