 | | I thought that the pan across the Misty Mountains that then zoomed in to Gandalf's Balrog battle seems to have worked well as a beginning for the movie, as did the dream-cut to Frodo and Sam. |
 | | Jumping ahead momentarily, it would have been nice to see the chase up the Endless Stair (though Jackson's Balrog probably wouldn't fit!), but the battle on the peak worked reasonably well and I was happy with the presentation of Gandalf's death and return. |
 | | [It's neat to know from the DVD extras that they originally wanted to include the "thing of slime" Balrog and the Endless Stair, and it's a shame that it was budget pressure that led to it being cut. |
