Endymion is a highly manoeuvrable six-wheeled rover with rocket engines which give it the ability to make several hops of up to 1,000 km over the lunar surface.
Retrorockets slowed Endymion as it approached the Messier pair, and the craft touched down some distance west of Messier A within one of the bright rays that emanate from the craters.
As Endymion approached one ridge a ten metre wide cavity was noticed, as if the ridge had been struck by a meteorite and had collapsed on itself.

Earlier in the war, the Grimaldi Crater marked the dividing line between ZAFT and Earth Alliance territory, and the lunar frontline was thus referred to as the Grimaldi Front.

This campaign ended with the battle at the Endymion Crater on June 2, C.E. 70, after which ZAFT withdrew from the moon and abandoned its lunar bases.

John Keats's poem Endymion (1818) is an allegory of the search for perfection.
The poem is not perfect--it is rambling and disconnected--the story of Endymion being but the finest thread to hold a string of beads and priceless pearls together.
As yet it has only been recognized in the depths of the circle of Endymion, to the east of the "Cold Sea," in the northern hemisphere, and at the bottom of Grimaldi's circle, on the equator, toward the eastern border of the orb.

The Maria Imbrium is 1,200 km across, the Apennine mountain range is 6,000m high and the rim walls of the highest craters up to 3,000 m high.
Many of the Moon's craters have central peaks; they occur randomly all over the Moon, though there are many more on the far side (where there are no "seas").
The largest craters are 100 km across, so big that even rims rising 3,000 km high cannot be seen from the middle.

This prominent, dark-floored crater is a "landmark" feature, easily recognized and useful for orientation.
When near the terminator, Endymion can look very odd (as opposed to its normal flat, dark spot) almost like a grand walled plain in such low angled light.
