The happy and well-formed prince and princess are captured, the prince is imprisoned, and the princess is kidnapped, leading to a labyrinthine chase.
Gameplay consists of a healthy dose of old school Prince of Persia puzzles and platform mechanics, but there is also a good deal of melee combat, where you can take bow and arrow, scimitar, staff, or star-shaped blades against your opponents.

To remedy his continuously diminishing health you'll be having to off enemies at a somewhat alarming rate by comparison to the more partisan standard Prince, which can see the game's already linear stream of arenas become little more than a combat-fuelled rush of rooms and corridors.
Moreover, the Dark Prince is around for a comparatively short span of the game, so for gamers who favour the traditional Sands-style athleticism of the likeable Prince, the darker part of the game will be a passable deviation.
Though the Dark Prince sections may grate, their brevity quickly gives way to the high-flying delights on which the main character first made his name, and allow the integrity of the series' story to shine.

The Two Thrones begins with the Prince returning to Babylon from the Island of Time with the mortal Kaileena as his new lover (this part of the plot may be confusing to those who didn't see the alternate ending of Warrior Within).
The internal strife in the schizophrenic Prince's mind forms a compelling part of the storyline in The Two Thrones, especially because both the writing and voice acting are pretty good.

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time was one of the nicest surprises of 2003 -- especially coming as it did after a couple of abominable attempts to revive Jordan Mechner's classic Prince of Persia franchise.
Ubisoft and the Prince of Persia development team clearly took those criticisms to heart during the development of the Prince's latest adventure, The Warrior Within, because those areas have improved dramatically since the Sands of Time.

GamingWorld X - Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Review
When it was released fifteen years ago, the original Prince of Persia wowed gamers with the realistic way in which the Prince could run, jump, and hang from ledges, tip-toe through traps, and more.
However, seldom as it was, there were times when gigantic enemies that were too large and skilled to spring over would surround the Prince and the camera would pop over to a very unfavorable angle, such as behind a pole or wall.
Just watching the Prince as I made him leap across chasms, do somersaults in the air, and launch himself off a pole through a hole in the wall was the most fun I’ve had with a game in ages.

Windows XP Jordan Mechner's classic action-adventure game Prince of Persia was a resounding success and managed to be ported to all kinds of computers and consoles back in the late 80's and early 90's.
The biggest problem with Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time is that this game was designed as a console title first, and a PC title second.
The Prince still carries the dagger, which gives you the ability to control time in several ways - this is what most of the game's unique style of action revolves around.

Best of all is that these complex moves don't come at the cost of simplicity as the Prince's actions are case sensitive to where he is, so pressing jump at the right time is all that you need to do whether you want to grab a rope or run across a wall.
Like the early games in the series sword combat is also an important element of the game, and by combining sword-swinging with the Prince's jumps and other tricks you can come up with some impressive moves.

Perhaps the biggest shakeup for the series, however, is the addition of the Dark Prince.
You’ll have to kill as many enemies as possible to absorb the sand they leave behind, or continually smash barrels to keep you alive during platforming.
So far the third modern Prince of Persia game seems to be taking the best parts of the last two titles and cutting out a lot of the mistakes and annoyances.

Sadly, the PoP series descended into mediocrity with 1999's poorly-received 3D version, and I expected that to be the end of it.
Much like Shinobi and Rygar before it, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time represents a bold re-imagining of its franchise; the plot is unrelated to prior games, but the gameplay, feel and style remain remarkably true to the spirit of the originals, with a little Ico thrown in for good measure.
Such is life for a Prince, and you'll need to become intimately familiar with every last move, maneuver and stunt available to you to make it through alive.

The Dark Prince’s Speed Kills will be launched by a fast-paced combination of buttons, whereas the Prince’s Speed Kills will be based on specific button sequences and very precise timing during a window of opportunity.
Also, their finishing moves will be very different as the Prince uses the Dagger of Time for his Speed Kills and the Dark Prince uses the Daggertail, a powerful mid range chain-like weapon.

In recent years Prince of Persia has re-emerged as one of the headliner franchises of the video-game industry, thanks to 2003's excellent Sands of Time.
This affliction manifests itself as "The Dark Prince," a physical embodiment of all of the Prince's weaker (and sinister) characteristics.
As the Dark Prince, however, you can pull off the Daggertail and use it in combat: whipping enemies from afar, using it to interact with the environment, or strangling guys with it from behind.
