EnergyAustralia Stadium is an Australian stadium, located in Newcastle, New South Wales.
Work began on the stadium on December 1, 1967, and was offically opened by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on the April 10, 1970.
The Knights secured a lease on the stadium in 1986, and converted it from an oval to a rectangle layout.

The Hunter ISC Trust awards the contract for the fifth and final tender in the EnergyAustralia Stadium redevelopment to Hunter-based construction company, John Holland Pty Ltd. The contract covers the remaining work on the Eastern Grandstand superstructure including corporate and function areas and upper grandstand seating for around 5000 spectators.
The new Eastern Concourse at EnergyAustralia Stadium is open for the first time when the Knights took on the Sydney Roosters for their first home game of the 2004 NRL season.

We were aware that the task force was expediting its examination of EnergyAustralia Stadium because the plan—it had taken a long time to formulate a good plan—was so well advanced.
It is interesting to note that the stadium was an airstrip in the middle of Newcastle and now the Newcastle airstrip is in the middle of Maitland—but that is another story.

Melbourne Storm secured a television deal with GTV-9 that gave them live exposure on Saturday afternoons throughout Melbourne but the deal didn't prove to be a success with crowds and interest down.

The Australian Rugby League have played the safe card in their recent decsion to host the ANZAC test match between Australia and New Zealand at Newcastle’s EnergyAustralia Stadium rather than the larger Suncorp Stadium (Lang Park) in Brisbane.
EnergyAustralia Stadium which will hold around 25,000 at the time the Test Match takes place (April 23) is almost guaranteed to sell out, especially with home town hero, Andrew Johns expected to take part in the match.
The news however is a blow to International Rugby League supporters north of the border.
