All but one constituency polled on 5 May; the South Staffordshire vote was postponed and took place on 23 June due to the death of a candidate.
Several years after the Scottish Parliament had been established by the Scotland Act 1998, the target electorate (population) size of Westminster Parliamentary seats in Scotland was adjusted to bring it in line with England's constituencies.
The results were interpreted by the UK media as an indicator of a breakdown in trust in the government, and in Prime Minister Tony Blair in particular.

The constituency is dominated by Luton airport and the Vauxhall car plant, and it came as a major blow to the area when Vauxhall announced that they plan to close their plant by mid 2002 with the loss of 2,000 jobs.
Pronounced Blakely, the seat lies in the north of Manchester and borders the suburbs of Prestwich to the west and Chadderton and Failsworth to the east.
The constituency is part of the Neath and Port Talbot local authority area, which voted Yes in the 1997 referendum by a majority of 18,267, which was 66% of the vote in that area - the biggest single Yes percentage in Wales.

 Enfield, Southgate
I live in Enfield Southgate and Twigg is the only candidate who is making an effort, it is hard to see who is a Tory voter in London these days and I predict Twigg will hold the seat quite comfortably.
Enfield Southgate will be a symbol of the Tories' bad performance in London in 2001, just as it was in 1997.
Stephen Twigg has worked the constituency well and is very popular, by contrast the Tories have picked a rural-based candidate whose manner and prejudices are completely out of keeping with suburban London.

On Monday 19 April, staff from the Haringey and Enfield constituency, made up of the London boroughs Haringey and Enfield, gained hands-on experience of the e-counting system.
The West Central constituency, Ealing & Hillingdon constituency, and the Brent & Harrow constituency undertook e-counting training on 14 April, 15 April and 16 April respectively.

Last night the former Tory agent for the Enfield constituency, Malcolm Tyndall, accepted when the Guardian put the allegation to him that more than £20,000 was raised in this way.

Prior to the coming of the railways and the rapid expansion of London, Edmonton, like the surrounding villages of Enfield, Friern Barnet and Potters Bar, was represented in Parliament by a Middlesex county Member.
Since local government reorganisation in the early 1960s, it has formed part of the London borough of Enfield, but it still maintains a distinct identity and character, of which its citizens are very proud.
It was told recently by the Christian Democrat group in the European Parliament that, as a non-Christian country, it was an unsuitable applicant for membership.

He was instrumental in exposing the rape of 18 year old School girl Krishanthi Kumaraswamy and the murder of her mother, brother and neighbours by the Sri Lankan army personnel mid 1995.
He had pursued this goal in the Sri Lankan parliament for many years and at the time of his brutal death he was doing everything he could to promote the peace process in Sri Lanka and to advocate for ongoing dialogue and negotiations between the Sri Lankan Government and the Tamil people.
Joseph Pararajasingham entered Parliament in 1990 and was re-elected in 1994 with the highest number of preferential votes ever received by a Tamil candidate in the NorthEast.

To their unenviable record of starting an unpopular and possibly illegal war, misleading the public and a series of illiberal measures which have horrified their own supporters, must now be added a succession of 'sleaze' stories surfacing at just the wrong moment.
While Enfield Labour Party are more 'Old Labour' and thoroughly uncomfortable with all that, they have had an uphill struggle on the doorsteps - local elections are often more about giving the government of the day a good kicking than local issues anyway.
The Lib Dems, fairly moribund in Enfield of late, have woken up following their win in Hornsey and Wood Green at the General Election last year, and are putting in a strong challenge to the Tories in Southgate, and to Labour in Lower Edmonton.

The local authority of Enfield is an outer London borough on the northern edge of London, bordering the Home Countries.
That part of the constituency to the west of the Great Cambridge Road is characterised as professional, more likely to commute to work and with much higher levels of owner-occupied homes.
I successfully campaigned for consumer choice on water meters, and took up the issue as constituents with extensions to their homes were being forced to have water meters installed.
