Enfield Town is a town in the London Borough of Enfield.
Enfield Town is famous for having the world's first ever cash machine or ATM, which was installed at the branch of Barclays Bank on June 27th 1967, and the world's first solid state circuitry colour televisions, which were manufactured by Ferguson at their plant in Enfield.
Enfield has a proud history in sport - Enfield F.C. were from the 1960s to the 1980s one of the best known and most successful non-League clubs, and the various Cricket clubs in the Borough have had great success over the years.

The popularity of Enfield Spartans lay surely in the fact that this was the original name for Enfield F.C., and thus was attached to the heritage of that club.
Enfield Town, on the other hand, was simply the name by which very many people knew Enfield F.C. Every supporter has had at some stage to explain that the club were not called Enfield Town F.C. and never had been.

The reason for this is possibly that the Lee Enfield Rifle remained the main military service rifle of the British Empire and her Commonwealth countries for over 60 years.
This rifle was named after the town of Enfield, and, more surprisingly, not after the River Lee, but after the designer of the original rifle, who was called James Paris Lee.
Strangely enough, a prominent supporter of Enfield Town FC, who also runs the T.G.T.L.S. web site, is called Lee, though it is not known whether he is named after the river or the designer of rifles, and is also a supporter of The Gunners.

Town's 13 month unbeaten away league run finally came to a halt in an end to end gale at Parkfield, mainly thanks to some horrendous defending in the first 20 minutes.
Town should have had a penalty when Trevor Paul was bear-hugged in the area when the score was still 1-0.
A half time change saw Town in complete control for most of the second half but it was too late by then as the Scholars were able to defend in numbers.
