Employment of engineering technicians often is influenced by the same local and national economic conditions that affect engineers; as a result, job outlook varies with industry and specialization.
Engineering technicians who work in research and development build or set up equipment; prepare and conduct experiments; collect data; calculate or record results; and help engineers or scientists in other ways, such as making prototype versions of newly designed equipment.
Growth in the largest specialty—electrical and electronics engineering technicians—is expected to be about as fast as the average, while employment of environmental engineering technicians is expected to grow faster than average to meet the environmental demands of an ever-growing population.

  Engineering - MSN Encarta
Engineering, term applied to the profession in which a knowledge of the mathematical and natural sciences, gained by study, experience, and practice, is applied to the efficient use of the materials and forces of nature.
With the increasing use of machinery in the 19th century, mechanical engineering was recognized as a separate branch of engineering, and later mining engineering was similarly recognized.
Aerospace engineering is closely allied to aeronautics, but is concerned with the flight of vehicles in space, beyond the earth's atmosphere, and includes the study and development of rocket engines, artificial satellites, and spacecraft for the exploration of outer space.

Engineering - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Engineering was originally divided into military engineering (which included construction of fortifications as well as military engines) and civil engineering (non-military construction of such as bridges).
With the rise of engineering as a profession in the nineteenth century the term became more narrowly applied to fields in which mathematics and science were applied to these ends.
While it appears Engineers still only need a bachelor's degree to obtain a lucrative position that receives respect from the public, in fact it is only through a life-time devotion to their field and the further advancement of their own technical knowledge that they might arrive at such a destination.

 WNEC Engineering - Welcome
Navigating the "white water" of the freshman year for engineering students is notorious for the challenges, both personal and academic, with which you will be confronted.
While you are on your way to becoming an engineer, you will be taking courses in small sections (rarely more than 20 students), each of them from one of your faculty members (not graduate students!) who will become your true mentors and provide the individualized attention that we know fosters success.
The best way to prepare future engineers to solve tomorrow's challenges is to develop their creativity through hands-on projects.

Engineering technology graduates, however, are not qualified to register as professional engineers under the same terms as graduates with degrees in engineering.
It is important for engineers, as it is for those working in other technical and scientific occupations, to continue their education throughout their careers because much of their value to their employer depends on their knowledge of the latest technology.
Employment of mining and geological engineers, including mining safety engineers, is projected to decline through 2014, primarily because most of the industries in which mining engineers are concentrated—such as coal, metal, and copper mining—are expected to experience declines in employment.

AUS engineering students acquire technical knowledge and develop engineering skills; moreover, the program helps to transform a secondary school graduate into a mature and discerning professional.
During their years in school, they begin to realize that while engineering is based on the sciences, science and math, these are not the most critical components of an engineering education.
They have advanced into top management positions because the skills that engineers develop through their rigorous course of study are equally useful for leadership assignments.
