British cuisine - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
During the Middle Ages, British cuisine enjoyed an excellent reputation; its decline can be firmly traced back to the late 18th century when the majority of the British population began to move away from the land, and was compounded by the effects of rationing during two World Wars (rationing finally ended in 1954).
The traditional accompaniment is custard, known as crème anglaise (English sauce) to the French.
Many drinkers, however, consider bitter (and particularly that produced in relatively small quantities by the 'independent' English breweries, as opposed to those owned by large corporations) to be superior to lager, although with the increasing range of high-quality lagers available the strength of that opinion is weakening somewhat.

In Indian cuisine, curry is a sauce - sometimes considered a soup - made by stirring yoghurt into a roux of ghee (clarified butter) and besan (chick pea flour).
English Indian restaurants have developed the Curry to such a level that it has become an integral part of English Cuisine.

Staring Rowan Atkinson and directed by Peter Howitt, the film is the cinematic equivalent of English cuisine: bland and unappetizing.
Lacking the Bond-like looks, skills and savoir fare of uber-operative Agent One, English is a legend in his own mind, pushing papers for queen and country while entertaining Walter Mitty daydreams of romance and international intrigue.
Atkinson originated the Johnny English character for a series of British TV commercials for Barclay Bank, which may prove hilarious for a 30-second spot but when stretched over 90 minutes grows quickly stale.
