English coin Three Farthings - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The silver Three Farthings (¾d) coin was introduced in Queen Elizabeth I's third and fourth coinages (1561-1582) as part of a plan to produce large quantities of coins of varying denominations and high metal content.
The three-farthings coin closely resembles the three-halfpence coin, differing only in the diameter, which is 14 millimetres in an unclipped coin, compared to 16mm for the three-halfpence.
All the coins are hammered coinage, except for the extremely rare milled coinage of 1563, of which only three examples are known to exist.

British coin Three Halfpence - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The three-halfpence coin closely resembles the three-farthings coin, and the three pence coin, differing only in the diameter, which is 16 millimetres in an unclipped coin, compared to 14mm for the three-farthings, and 19mm for the three pence (except 1561, which was 21 mm).
The Three Halfpence coin (1½d, 1/180th of a pound) was produced for circulation in the colonies, mainly in Ceylon and the West Indies in each year between 1834 and 1843, and also in 1860 and 1862 (and proof coins were also produced in 1870).
The coin is considered to be part of the British coinage because it has no indication of what country it was minted for, being made in the same style as the other contemporary British coins.

Medieval English Hammered Farthings: Henry VII Farthing
The important criterion that distinguishes the farthing from the more common halfpenny is the inner circle on the obverse, which is 8mm across on the halfpenny.
This is confirmed by Dr BJ Cook, Curator of Medieval and Early Modern Coinage, Department of Coins and Medals, British Museum who states: "It is broadly true that Henry VII farthings have an inner circle of about 6mm, compared to the larger halfpennies.
Farthings of Henry VII are very rare, but their small size and weight is distinctive, so if the inner circle of the coin in question is c.

Medieval English Hammered Farthings: Edward VI Farthing
In August 1551 the crisis was addressed, resulting in a devaulation of the currency by 50%.
As such, the debased halfpenny of Edward VI served as the 'de facto' farthing, although an official farthing was also produced.
The light weight and small size of the silver farthing had made it inpractical to manufacture and use.
