Gene expression - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Gene expression, or simply expression, is the process by which a gene's DNA sequence is converted into the structures and functions of a cell.
An inducible gene is a gene whose expression is either responsive to environmental change or dependent on the position of the cell cycle.
Indirectly, the expression of particular genes may be assessed with DNA microarray technology, which can provide a rough measure of the cellular concentration of different messenger RNAs; often thousands at a time.

Anglicism - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Because English itself borrowed a great amount of French vocabulary after the Norman Conquest, some anglicisms are actually Old French words that dropped from usage over the centuries in French itself but were preserved in English, and have now come full circle back into French.
An English orthographical convention is that compound words are written separately, whereas in Finnish, compound words are written together, using a hyphen with acronyms and numbers.
A Briticism is an expression peculiar to British English, from an outsider's point-of-view.

ENGLISH AND POSTCOLONIAL WRITERS' BURDEN: LINGUISTIC INNOVATIONS
Such is the case of African literature of English expression where important cultural habits and geo-political phenomena (greetings, abuses, curses, foods, dresses, fauna and florae) are expressed and typified in a non-native tongue (English).
Since the food does not exist in the culture where English is used as a first language, the postcolonial writer has a burden to either translate the word literally to English or employ it as it is used in his mother tongue, that is, as a loan rendition.
Since the use of English by African writers is an instance of culture contact (conflict), the language cannot adequately express African religions and their deities, Fatoba therefore attempts to solve this linguistic burden by maintaining a selective fidelity to his mother tongue.

While English is the proper pre-professional major for those intending to become teachers of English (and there will be a growing need for such teachers during the next decade), English is also an especially appropriate major for those intending to enter a wide variety of other professions.
Majoring in English is not a way to get the highest-paying entry-level job, but the records of the work force show that it is the surest preparation for moving up from an entry-level job to greater responsibility in almost any field.

The English scholar Hoare traces this new liberty to the sailing away of the Armada and the releasing of England from the perpetual dread of Spanish invasion.
In the English language there was as yet no classical meaning; it was exactly that meaning that these writers were giving the words when they brought them into their version.[1] There is large advantage in the fact that the age was not a scientific one, that the language had not become complicated.
One such punning expression occurs in the story of Samson (Judges xv:16), where our version reads: "With the jawbone of an ass, heaps upon heaps, with the jawbone of an ass have I slain a thousand men." In the Hebrew the words translated "ass" and "heaps" are variants of the same word.

Freedom of expression in all its forms and manifestations is a fundamental and inalienable right of all individuals.
Prior conditioning of expressions, such as truthfulness, timeliness or impartiality is incompatible with the right to freedom of expression recognized in international instruments.
It is the duty of the state to prevent and investigate such occurrences, to punish their perpetrators and to ensure that victims receive due compensation.

According to the rules of English, as opposed to simple transliteration, "Day's Soup" or, better yet, "The Day's Soup" or "Today's Soup" would be better mistakes as "'s", the possessive form, and "of" sometimes convey a similar meaning.

While rehearsals reinforce the correct scripted language, the improvisation encourages students to mobilize their vocabulary, respond to grammatical and syntactical cues, develop cultural and social awareness, and gain confidence and fluency.
Significantly, as the drama evolved, the class began to address issues other than language; under the "cover" of their roles, they debated American social and cultural norms that differed from those of their native cultures.
After several weeks of rehearsal, the class videotaped the entire play in the audio-visual studio where unexpected expression on the president's part spontaneously produced a surprising end to the conflict.

All ideas are capable of giving offence, and some of the most powerful ideas in human history, such as those of Galileo and Darwin, have given profound religious offence in their time.
We abhor the fact that people throughout the world live under mortal threat simply for expressing ideas and we call on our elected representatives to protect them from attack and not to give comfort to the forces of intolerance that besiege them.
