Programming language - Simple English Wikipedia
A programming language is the language that a programmer uses to write a computer program.
A programming language is not a spoken language.
Compiled programming languages are languages where a special computer program called a compiler reads the source code and generates a binary program written in machine language.

C programming language - Simple English Wikipedia
The C programming language is a computer programming language that works close to the hardware.
It is a procedural language, which means that you can divide your program into sub-programs and use these from within the main program.
This makes C a good language for writing operating systems and a lot of them, like Linux and UNIX (or at least big parts of these systems) are written in C. Another good thing about C is, that it is available for many different platforms.

programming language. The Columbia Encyclopedia, Sixth Edition. 2001-05
All computers operate by following machine language programs, a long sequence of instructions called machine code that is addressed to the hardware of the computer and is written in binary notation (see numeration), which uses only the digits 1 and 0.
PL/1 [Programming Language 1], developed in the late 1960s by the IBM Corp., and ADA [for Ada Augusta, countess of Lovelace, biographer of Charles Babbage], developed in 1981 by the U.S. Dept. of Defense, are designed for both business and scientific use.
With some languages, such as C or Pascal, the program is turned into a separate machine language program by a compiler, which functions much as an assembler does.

Metafor: English as a Programming Language
Hugo Liu, a researcher at the MIT, thinks about using English as a programming language because it is much more concise than any traditional programming language, and eliminates the need to learn one in the first place.
Although programming a computer is eminently useful -- it gives you fine control of a powerful tool -- it requires learning a programming language.

andrew cooke: an introduction to programming languages
Unlike the languages mentioned so far, C has weak typing - some variables can point to different types of data, or even random areas of memory, and the program cannot tell what type of object is being referred to.
APL ("a programming language") is the first I know of - the tradition has continued with J (used to win a recent ICFP programming contest) and K (less intimidating than J, I am assured).
Mercury is another logic programming language (it can also be used as a general-purpose functional language) that trades some slight losses in generality for much faster execution.

English, a programming language? - GameDev.Net Discussion Forums   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-01)
Frnakly, I think English (as is) would make an extremely poor programming language - at least, until AI really advances in the fields of Natural Language Synthesis and Analysis (but by that time, we might as well be speaking to our computers).
Any natural language machine would become obsolete in only a few days, unless it was capable of learning new words as they are told to it, which means it would be at least as intelligent as a human anyway.
Thus, for natural language programming, I estimate we need about 15 - 20 years of AI development, plus a massive improvement in processor and memory technology (and I'm not just talking about speed, either, but massive improvements in instruction sets and multitasking too), before we can hope for such technology.

 The Pascal Programming Language
This class stressed that the art of programming was not the learning of a programming language, but the thought process of taking real-life problems, finding a solution, translating that solution to an algorithm, and finally converting the algorithm into working code.
This type of programming is tedious and error prone, as well as extremely difficult to understand and modify.
Additionally, languages like COBOL were designed with over-elaborate definitions, weak data structures support, and a lack of flexibility, making programs tedious to code and difficult to enhance.

 The Goedel Programming Language
Gödel is a declarative, general-purpose programming language in the family of logic programming languages.
This means that theoreticians can apply their "pure" theories of program transformation, program analysis, etc., more or less directly to Gödel and do not have to be concerned with complications of extending their theories to cope with the many non-logical aspects of languages such as Prolog.
Gödel is developed by Antony Bowers and John Lloyd at the University of Bristol and Pat Hill at the University of Leeds.

The C programming language is used in many different areas of application, but the most prolific area is UNIX operating system applications.

Any programming language is a compromise between the computer’s native language (0010001) and your native language (English).
Programs are instructions to your computer to behave in a particular way.
So a software program like Microsoft Office gets all machines to behave in a particular way the instructions are slightly different for different computers (different hardware), but the program makes all computers behave (almost) the same.

English programming language - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
ENGLISH (actually trademarked in all caps) was a database retrieval and reporting language somewhat like SQL, but with no actual programming or update capabilities, released by Microdata in 1973 and named so that the company's brochures could claim that developers could generate reports on their implementation of the Pick operating system using English.
Apart from this marketing trick, no programming language exists that is currently used as a human language or vice-versa.
